How Do You Feel About The 'Lost'?

Posted by David Manske , 15 June 2012 · 1596 views

Recently, I had the privilege to sit at Ajith Fernando's feet and learn. This Sri Lankan author of 15 books, and a lifetime of ministry with YFC was an inspirational wealth of insight and teaching. It was a rare privilege...maybe you've experienced something similar.

When talking about Paul's discourse in Athens and the topic "Reaching the Unreached", Ajith said, "...the fact 'lost' should make us very uncomfortable." He also cited a Spurgeon quote, "What right do we have to be comfortable" when there are still 'lost' people?

Wow! We need our spirit's provoked to the point that the Apostle's words drench our lives: "I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart...that I were cursed and cut off for the sake of..." the lost! (Acts 9:2-3)

Now...let's talk about some of the places we have visited, or lived, or currently reside...where there are those who have not heard, or worse...they have no one to tell them.

How do you feel about the 'lost'?

Lord, enlarge my heart. Provoke my spirit...there are so many who are lost...

The lost should be heavy on our hearts.I find that by keeping close to God through prayer and his word and keeping a praise attitude for him and what he did(and does) for us,all opens my heart to those in need of the gospel.this is sometimes hard as God will ask me to share when I would rather not or maybe just not with that one that he really wants me to share with, then I am reminded not to try and do it my way.Jesus be my guide not me be his=)peace and love in Christ,Elizabeth

Thanks for sharing on this, Elizabeth. As we move in sanctification, guided by Christ, we move towards sharing God's passions...by His grace.

I agree that we should have a heart for the lost and seek every opportunity to connect with the lost people around us so we can hopefully have a chance to share the gospel with them. This is what my husband I have felt led to do in our community. We try to get to know the employees at stores we frequent for that very reason. We learn their names and ask about their lives; this has opened some amazing doors for us to share Jesus. Lately, we have gotten to know two young women who work at the Subway shop where we have lunch after church almost every Sunday. We have been blown away by the opportunites God has given us to minister to them. They have shared their struggles and prayer requests with us, and we have shared about the difference that Jesus has made in our lives. When business is slow while we are there, they come and talk with us while we are eating our lunch. One of the women, a single mom, even showed us pictures of her kids. It is amazing the doors that God opens when we are aware of the lost people around us. Please pray for these two women (Noelle and Kyley) and for other lost people God brings across our path. May we be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit and bold enough to act on His leading.

Julie, cool story about being intentional, and of stepping out of your comfort zone to interact w these 2 women. Thanks for sharing your lunch time/table with them, and for sharing the prayer request with us.
Blog readers -- let's pray!

Thanks for praying, David! Please pray specifically that Noelle will be able to find a good Christian church that has an evening service she can go to. She can't go to church Sunday morning because of her job at Subway, and she is looking for a church with an evening service (I think she would prefer Wednesday evenings). We just found out about a church that has a Friday and Sunday evening service and plan to give her their card the next time we see her. :)
