A.B. Simpson said, “This is our high calling, to represent Christ, and act in His behalf, and in His character and spirit, under all circumstances and toward all men”. Representing Christ among the poor means visiting them and understanding their circumstances. A young woman attended one of our widows' meetings. She had accepted Christ shortly before her husband died leaving her with four children. She goes out during the day offering to wash clothes in her neighborhood so that she can feed her family. I never got her name at our meeting, but did ask the name of the church she attended. It was not easy to track her down and the only way to get to her yard was by walking along a steep ravine. The poverty was overwhelming. But we know that we are called to represent Christ and to act on His behalf towards those in need. I am thankful for the Bible that shows us the many ways that Jesus cared for the poor. He always brought practical help and much encouragement in the words He spoke. May we remember the high calling that we have to represent Christ and to act as His representative among those in need and those that He brings our way.
