God,

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,

the courage to change the things I can,

and the wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time;

accepting hardship as a pathway to peace;

taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it;

trusting that You will make all things right if I surrender to Your will;

so that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with You in the next.

Amen

(Reinhold Niebuhr)

I believe this framework must be relatively easy for us to live by as compared to our persecuted brothers and sisters in Iran, Syria, China and other nations where there's no external peace provided.

Blessings,

Candice

Candice,

Some people that are in extreme hardship have the blessing of surrender more than we do. Life isn't easier for them, but spirituality is. They don't have much on this earth to cling to or prop themselves up with, so they fall on the mercies of God much more quickly and by necessity. There is a desperation that is their lifeline. Have you read the book, "the Heavenly Man" about Chinese brother Yun? I'd recommend it.

As one in recovery I often meditate on the serenity prayer (shortened version of course). Thanks for posting Candice!
