God, Islam and America

Is God behind the Muslim threat to America? Throughout Biblical history God repeatedly used other nations (see the book of Judges) to punish the sins of His people, to bring them back to repentance for their sin. Pastor Rusty Lee Thomas writes that we need "…to connect the dots between our spiritual and moral state with the rise and threat of Islam in our nation. Our sins have reached heaven and we have the testimony of God's word on how He deals with nations that kill babies and parade their sin like Sodom [e.g. 2 Kings 17:17,18; Jeremiah 19]. He lifts His hand of protection and turns them over to a fierce and cruel people who will not be appeased. The only solution available is to get on our knees confess and repent of our personal and national sin and look to God to deliver us from evil." Thomas points out that the church has struggled with Islam in the past. Martin Luther also saw the hand and purposes of God behind the Turkish aggression of his day. "The Turk (Islam) is the rod of the wrath of the Lord our God...If the Turk's god, the devil, is not beaten first, there is reason to fear that the Turk will not be so easy to beat...Christian weapons and power must do it...[The fight against the Turks] must begin with repentance, and we must reform our lives, or we shall fight in vain. [The Church should] drive men to repentance by showing our great and numberless sins and our ingratitude, by which we have earned God's wrath and disfavor, so that He justly gives us into the hands of the devil and the Turk." America is ripe for judgment on many counts, especially its brazen accommodation of sexual perversion and the premeditated murder of unborn children, both of which are sanctioned by law. As Israel joined in similar debauchery in its day, God's promise of their demise became a reality. What will it take for the American Church to fulfill its role as a watchman and "whenever you receive a message from me (God), pass it on to the people immediately…If I (God) warn the wicked…but you fail to deliver the warning, they will die in their sins. And I will hold you responsible, demanding your blood for theirs." (Ezekiel 3:17, 18) Church we have been warned.
