The church service was suddenly interrupted as armed gunman entered, demanding everyone to lie down on the floor. The people complied, with some beginning to cry. And then one gunman gave the order, “kill them all”. The pastor stood to his feet and the guns became fixed on him. “Please tell us what we have done to deserve death. We are just simple people, coming together to worship God. We have not done anything wrong.” That was how the negotiations began. Some church members were accused of alerting government forces. The pastor quietly said again that his people were not involved in any of it. In that tension the dialogue continued until finally the gunmen left and the church people could quietly make their way home.
Please pray for Burkina Faso. Pray that peace would be restored. Pray that pastors would have great courage as they live out their faith in difficult situations.
