A. B. Simpson wrote, “Our God has boundless resources. The only limit is in us. Our asking, our thinking, our praying are too small. Our expectations are too limited.” It is helpful to think of generosity as a circle. God provides the seed or resource (2 Corinthians 9:10), we put it to use in helping those in need, they receive what is needed, and in turn, back it goes to God as they thank Him for what He has done. It is important to remind the people who we are helping, that our resources are not our own, that they come from God, and that He has asked us to be generous with what He has given. In my work with widows, the needs can be overwhelming. I need the reminder that it is God who is supplying the seed, that my resources come from Him, and His supply is limitless. It also helps me to remember that others are part of this circle. An eye doctor at the hospital asked for a piece of equipment that we were able to obtain for him, but someone else paid for the training class on how to use the equipment. This aspect of the generous circle is wonderful because we cannot be tempted to think highly of ourselves or to be discouraged thinking we are the only ones trying to help with all these needs. May we have large prayers, may we be part of the generous circle, and trust that our Heavenly Father will be glorified.
