I am an Elder in a C&MA church. Our children’s church leader has initiated a program where children (1 – 5th grade) are introduced to taking communion. She does this in a very respectful manner that is intended to educate children about the importance and the practice of taking communion.
I have heard of parents murmuring about this practice of offering communion in children’s church. While I find nothing in the Bible that explicitly prohibits this practice, it seems to me that there is the same (or perhaps a greater) Biblical expectation for comprehension for taking communion as there is for baptism.
My question is then: Is there any C&MA guidance regarding a C&MA church offering communion to young children who are not baptized (presumably because they are too young)?
Thanks,
Doug Oliver
