Turk,

Not sure if you will get an answer from official Alliance. I am just a follower of Jesus.

I thought that maybe I could give you some things to think about though, since I happen to be here and reading your question.

What is a cult? evangelical?

The definitions are enlightening!

Jesus, in His day, along with Paul, according to Acts were part of a sect; or cult?

Act 24:3  Most excellent Felix, we acknowledge this everywhere and in every way with all gratitude.
Act 24:4  But so that I may not delay you any further, I beg you to hear us briefly with your customary graciousness.
Act 24:5  For we have found this man to be a troublemaker, one who stirs up riots among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.

Evangelical - WordWeb - Relating to or being a Christian church believing in personal conversion and the inerrancy of the Bible especially the 4 Gospels.

Here is another word to consider, legalistic. WordWeb - legalistic - Strictly obeying the details of the law.  Law - The collection of rules imposed by authority.

If you are bound to follow the rules of any authority, and that alone, I believe you will always be struggling in "darkness" to find "Truth".

If you see the Bible as an introduction to an Almighty Father that wants to walk with you, have a relationship with you and set you free from ALL the powers of darkness, you will eventually be lead into the "Light".

My suggestion is to get your eyes off of man and his philosophies and doctrines.

Focus on the Spirit of the Word.

Leave all conformity to the "World".

Repent of all that the Holy Spirit tells you to get rid of.

Begin to walk in a newness of life, following the example of Jesus in the Wisdom of the Holy Spirit.

Lose (die to) self and your identity. Invite the person of Jesus Christ and His Spirit to live within you.

Learn to hear and obey His promptings from His Spirit, that must live within you producing His fruits of righteousness.

Soon you will find brothers and sisters, children of God, in all sorts of places! By their fruits you will know them!

Sorry if this is not clear.

Ask for light and understanding and our Heavenly Father will give it to you and His Spirit will teach you.

Get your eyes and passion on the person of Jesus, the Anointed One, the Son of God. He will set you free from all darkness and lead you into the "Light".

He is the Light!  His opinion is all that really matters!

As a believer for multiple decades, due to local circumstances, I've spent the last three years in a Bible study with SDA ladies. From what I've learned, every SDA church is different. The majority of these women believe they are saved by grace, we have never studied anything by Ellen White, but they are religious about vegetarianism and Saturday worship, however a few don't go regularly. One says she was glad she was a Christian before she started attending the SDA (apparently because it doesn't teach the saving gospel or New Covenant? Not sure). As in all denominations you're going to find some true believers (you'll know them by the fruit and the lack of religious spirit), and some searching, and some just going out of family obligation or habit without any heart change. Only God truly knows what is in each heart. All of that said, the more I've studied the background to the SDA, their particular teachings and, in some ways, misinterpretations of scripture, I know I could not join the SDA church, would not recommend others go there if they are searching for a "good church", and I do feel like I am a bit of an evangelist in their midst. They have much in common with evangelicals, but there is a more cultish undercurrent running beneath in their beliefs (in the instances of when they actually KNOW what their church believes) of being the remnant church, the on-going Investigative Judgment of all believers by Jesus since October 1844 till He comes back, and their religiosity toward the 4th Commandment to the extent that worshipping on Sunday in the tribulation will be the sign of the Beast. It's important to note that this denomination began in the 1800's shortly after Joseph Smith died. Ellen White's relative was one of Joseph Smith's wives. Ellen White only had a 3rd grade education who could not follow the theological discussions of the elders until she said she went into a trance and received revelation, resulting in stacks of books on "how-tos" on lots of topics, dietary rules, strict adherence to worship on Saturday, that Jesus is the Archangel Michael in the OT (same as Jehovah's Witnesses), etc. From those roots we can follow the fruit to see whether the denomination knows and shares the true freedom of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Praise the father of Lights that through the Lord Jesus Christ and the guidance of the Holy Spirit

people can by grace through faith overcome sin and death.  Though we are still sinners, we have obtained the righteousness of Christ.  SDA is a legalistic cult which denies many things in the scrip-

tures.  Anti-Christ is any spirit, person or activity which denies that Jesus is God come in the flesh

(Emmanuel as it is said in Isaiah).  SDA adherents claim the anti_Christ is the Catholic Church,

not a man chosen by Lucifer as Revelation states.  The One World Church of Revelation, of which

the Catholics are a part, will be corrupt and will be destroyed- while the anti Christ still rules.  Praise

God that his word solves all of these controversies and conumdrums if we read and heed.
