I used to think that we were either full of God or empty. However, I am learning
that this is not actually true. Instead, we are usually full of something.
Jesus said:
"The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness" (Luke 11:34).
Here the Lord says that one is full of darkness when focused on the wrong thing.
I think this darkness creeps in through this world, which is Vegas-like as
social media streams captions and lights into our homes.
Jesus also said we can only serve one master (Mt. 6:24). I used to think
this was merely a moral imperative, but today I'm learning that one
cannot live in God's kingdom and the world at the same time. This is true
because we can either see as God sees, or we see in a different way.
I think the remedy is to heed our Lord's words in Matthew 13:52:
Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.
The new and old has to do with how we picture God. Isaiah gives us a view
of the Old:

2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.
3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.
4 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.
5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.
What a glorious picture of God. This God is multi-dimensional
and VERY sacred and Holy.
The writer of Hebrews gives us a New treasure:
"Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, ... " (Heb. 10:19).
So, you see--we cannot grasp who God truly is while living in the world's kingdom.
Indeed, the worlds are too different. However, if we will sit with an open Bible
and an open ear, we will receive treasures from heaven. These treasures
eclipse any information that may come through our televisions. Certainly,
as we celebrate the birth of Jesus, we should hope to understand that He loved us enough to come for us.
And, since He came, we now have the key to enter the Holy of Holies. Hallelujah.
