A loving Father to me is one that will take the time to train and discipline you in doing what is right. He will warn you and guide you around the pitfalls of life. When temptations come he might even let you choose the wrong way and experience the pain of hot pan that you have been told not to touch, but just couldn't keep you hand off of. The loving parent will then put on the healing ointment and bandages, caring for it until you are all better.

A spoiling grandparent on the other hand will give you all that you want, pampering most every whim, ignoring your disobedience and selfishness, then send you home for your parents to deal with the tantrums and problems.

How do you see the "Heavenly Father" spoken of in the Holy Scriptures? Do you want to know Him? Are you willing to spend the kind of time and effort, that it takes to REALLY get to intimately know Him?

He wants to really love and care for you! Are you willing to be an obedient little chick, heeding and obeying His voice, that you have learned to know, so well, as you daily sit at His feet, reading and thinking about 'His ways' of doing good?

Can you really, honestly say, "He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust." or do you run to, and trust in some 'human solution' when your life faces a crises?

DIVINE DELIVERANCE

"I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust."-- Psa_91:2.

IT IS supposed that this Psalm, like the preceding one, was composed by Moses, "the man of God," and that each may be applied to the flight of Israel from Egypt. To "abide under the shadow of the Almighty" reminds us of the words of our Lord, when He said: "How often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not." Bunyan says that the hen has four calls--the call when night is near; the call for food when she has found some dainty; the call of peril when the hawk is nigh; and the call of brooding love, when she wants to feel her nestlings under her wings. To-day God is calling to each of us, saying: Come My children, make the secret place of My presence, of My environment, of My constant keeping, your home; for he that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the wings of God. When night is nigh, when money and food is scarce, when the hawk is in the air ready to pounce on us, when loneliness or desolation oppresses, let us hear the brooding cry of God our Father, and nestle beneath His shadow.

God is prepared to keep us in all our ways. Many of us believe that somehow God will bring us out at last, but we have no expectation that He can keep us in blamelessness of soul; we expect to be brought to Heaven, but that we shall be battered, and beaten, and despoiled on the way. But surely our God can do better for us than that! He can keep us from yielding to passionate temper, jealousy, hatred, pride, and envy, as well as to the grosser forms of sin.

The promise is clear: "He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways"--the business ways, the social ways, the ways of service into which God may lead us forth, the ways of sacrifice or suffering. Let us simply and humbly ask for the fulfilment of the promises in this Psalm. He will answer your prayers. He will be with you in trouble. He will satisfy you with many years of life, or with living much in a short time, and He will show you the wonders of His salvation.

PRAYER

Lord, be Thou within me, to strengthen me; without me, to keep me; above me, to protect me; beneath me, to uphold me; before me, to direct me; behind me, to keep me from straying; round about me, to defend me. AMEN.

                                                           ----------------

We must yield to His way! We must have 'our way'  "the self life" dead, not active, powerless! The only way that can happen is to starve it to death by not eating at the table of the world, under its influences, indulging all its senses and feelings.

Repent of the old life, start a new life, not conformed to the world, totally yielded to the HOLY Spirit. Only feed your mind and thoughts on the Spirit of the Word of God and its influences! Guard your mind, do not entertain any thoughts but pure, holy thoughts! This is not possible when you choose to have a daily diet of worldly activities focused on worthless treasures. Choose you this day whom you will serve!

Amen to this. The world will "pamper" us when we walk in it's agenda, but it is also quick to abandon, discard and destroy us when we are deemed useless, or oppose it's system.

Reminds me of David, when convicted of numbering the people of Israel, said " I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of the Lord; for his mercies are great: and let me not fall into the hand of man." (2 Sam 24:14). God's guidance and discipline, are to grow us up, and are only for a season. But for the world, death and destruction are never satisfied.

robo328,

I was rereading you comment today and my eyes were drawn you the verse at the bottom of your post from Isaiah 30:15.

It is a very good verse, but as usual, for me, I am curious about the context that it is written in.

I have been blogging on the deception in the church about sin and the fact that most believers still feel in bondage to sin. Also, most believers are very much dependent upon the help of the world, and entertained by the pleasures of the world. (2 Timothy 3:1-5)

This chapter of Isaiah just really jumped out at me.

Egypt has been considered to be a type of the Sinful World. As the Israelites, God’s peculiar people, were delivered out of the bondage, slavery in Egypt, so are His peculiar people today, taken from all walks of life and nationality, delivered from the slavery to sin and the world.

Sadly, just as the Israelites wanted to go back into slavery and did go to Egypt in later generations, to meet their needs, so are those who have been delivered turn back to the bondage of sin and the dependence upon the world instead of knowing a total freedom from sin and a total reliance upon a Heavenly Father and a Heavenly Brother that is closer than any earthly kin.

Net Bible Isaiah 30:7  Egypt is totally incapable of helping. For this reason I call her ‘Proud one who is silenced.’ “

Isaiah 30:8  Now go, write it down on a tablet in their presence, inscribe it on a scroll, so that it might be preserved for a future time as an enduring witness.

Isaiah 30:9  For these are rebellious people — they are lying children, children unwilling to obey the LORD’s law.

Isaiah 30:10  They say to the visionaries, “See no more visions!” and to the seers, “Don’t relate messages to us about what is right! Tell us nice things, relate deceptive messages.

Isaiah 30:11  Turn aside from the way, stray off the path. Remove from our presence the Holy One of Israel.”

Isaiah 30:12  For this reason this is what the Holy One of Israel says: “You have rejected this message; you trust instead in your ability to oppress and trick, and rely on that kind of behavior.

Isaiah 30:13  So this sin will become your downfall. You will be like a high wall that bulges and cracks and is ready to collapse; it crumbles suddenly, in a flash.

Isaiah 30:14  It shatters in pieces like a clay jar, so shattered to bits that none of it can be salvaged. Among its fragments one cannot find a shard large enough to scoop a hot coal from a fire or to skim off water from a cistern.”

Isaiah 30:15  For this is what the master, the LORD, the Holy One of Israel says: “If you repented and patiently waited for me, you would be delivered; if you calmly trusted in me you would find strength, but you are unwilling.

Isaiah 30:16  You say, ‘No, we will flee on horses,’ so you will indeed flee. You say, ‘We will ride on fast horses,’ so your pursuers will be fast.

Isaiah 30:17  One thousand will scurry at the battle cry of one enemy soldier; at the battle cry of five enemy soldiers you will all run away, until the remaining few are as isolated as a flagpole on a mountaintop or a signal flag on a hill.”

Isaiah 30:18  For this reason the LORD is ready to show you mercy; he sits on his throne, ready to have compassion on you. Indeed, the LORD is a just God; all who wait for him in faith will be blessed.
