It is the anabling power of God that equips us to add to knowledge, self-control and to self-control, perseverance. His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through knowing Him (2 Peter 1:3). Are we making use of that power in daily living?

2 Peter 1:5-8 was yesterday's verses on FB ... today's nudge was the above 2 Peter 1:3 ... I love the confirmation.

We have everything we need ... indeed.

Now we have this treasure in clay jars, so that this extraordinary power may be from God and not from us.

We are pressured in every way but not crushed; we are perplexed but not in despair;

we are persecuted but not abandoned; we are struck down but not destroyed.

~2 Corinthians 4:7-9~

Chipped,

Great post. Surely it is His divine power that enables us for everything we need to follow Him. I was also reminded of the words in Acts 14:22 that "through much tribulation we must enter the Kingdom of God." And Timothy was told to endure hardship and endure suffering. And many other such verses. So I guess I say this because I agree the Gospel is simple and uncomplicated, but I think living it out is not always easy. Besides external struggles and hardships, we have the internal ones--ourselves mainly. But in all this, we are more than conquerors through Him! But we need the grace and the power to live this crucified life, crucified to the world, the flesh and the devil.

I agree John about the hardships and struggles, but when we get over the "hump" of understanding deep in our spirits that God is the power and the glory we do find His peace and joy too.

I thought this really fit into this discussion.

Days of Heaven on Earth

Thursday, March 20, 2014

God's people sometimes fight tremendous battles to attain to righteousness in trying circumstances. Perhaps they feel guilt because temptation has been allowed to overcome them or, at least, to turn them aside from their singleness of purpose toward God. The resulting conflict is a terrible one as they seek to adjust and be right with God. They find themselves baffled by spiritual foes, and they are helpless and perplexed.

How dark and dreary the struggle! At such times how helpless and ineffectual we seem to be!

We are almost sure to strive in the spirit of the law; such striving will always result in condemnation and failure. Every disobedience is met by a blow of wrath and discouragement, and we are close to despair.

If the tempted and struggling one could only understand, or remember what perhaps he has learned before, that Christ is our righteousness, and that it is not by law but by grace alone that we conquer. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace (Romans 6:14). That is the secret of the battle.

Betsy,

I agree with that. I guess I accidentally took your thought in the wrong direction. We do overcomplicate the Gospel, and most of the difficulty arises from us. But yes, there is joy and peace and true freedom once we realize, as you say, "God is the power."
