I had a Baptist pastor tell me once that people who flat out deny God aren't not sorry after they die and know the truth. I've always had trouble with this. What do C&MA members believe?

Zechariah 10:
8 Three shepherds also I cut off in one month; and my soul lothed them, and their soul also abhorred me.

I do believe that there is truth to what that pastor said. There are people who have hardened their hearts to the point where even when they are faced with the truth and all their dillusions have been shattered, they will continue to rebell and hang on to their lies. But I do think it is also important to keep in mind Jesus parable of the man with the two sons. The man asked the first son to do a task. He sad he would do it, but didn't. The second son refused and went to do his own thing, but was convicted and did the task. The first son was obedient in word, but not in action. The second was rebellious in word, but obedient in action. In this, where is the ultimate denial?

I do not know about some Baptists, but there are some who believe that those who deny God when they die, they go to hell. To me,I do not believe that those were never saved in the first place (I feel I need to study this a little more).

Good evening CC let me say that this concept is indeed puzzling but perhaps i can shed some light on it for you. The passage in Zec. 11:8 first of all can not be used as a basis for the theology proposed as it is given toward Judah and the Shepherds were most likely the 3 positions of Prophet, Priest, and King which were lost after the Roman invasion by Titus and the destruction of the temple in 70AD. To this day those positions have not been in use and of course not necessary because Jesus fulfills those places for us. This passage is a prophetic journey acted out in real life by Zec. showing why God was bringing judgement on His people. One of those reasons was the poor leadership which would reject the Messiah and lead Israel as a nation to reject Jesus and crucify Him. Remember what was said by the leaders and people when Pilot presented Jesus as their King. they said" We have no King but Caesar" Well because of that they served that King and then He destroyed them and the temple as God's punishment. alright so that is the direction of Zec. 11:8. Still what about those who deny God in this life. As far as I can tell by scripture and not mans wisdom the only unforgivable sin is described by Jesus as blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, not to be forgiven in this life nor the next. However, smiles... lets look at some passages in Rev, 9 and 16. Rev 9:20 But the rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, that they should not worship demons, and idols of gold, silver, brass, stone, and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk. Rev 9:21 And they did not repent of their murders or their sorceries or their sexual immorality or their thefts. Rev 16:9 And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory. Rev 16:11 They blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and did not repent of their deeds. These verses would lead us to believe that it is because of God's punishment that they refuse to repent. So I would have to say that there is enough evidence to show that at least some who reject Christ on this side will continue to be without repentance on the other side...but to make a class of people and say those who deny Christ in Life will in torment not feel sorrow for their denial....mmmm No we can not do that. Is it possible..sure.. is it definite ... No it is not.

depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out. - Luke 13:27-28

I'm thinking - If there will be some which will not be sorry then why will there be weeping and gnashing of teeth?
