First,

Thank you for even taking the time to read this. I fond out last night that my cousin James and his girlfriend Heather had a miscarriage last night. Neither of them are believers and have actually suffered deep wounds from the church in the past and that only makes this loss harder and their enmity and confusion towards God deeper. I ask that you would pray for them, that God would minister peace and be the comforter that He promised to be in their lives but, more important than that, that somehow God would reveal Himself to them in a way that would draw them to a loving relationship with Him. Again, thank you for taking the time to read this, and thank you for your prayers.

Carl,

I will certainly pray. Thanks so much for sharing.

Blessings,
Lori
In The Pursuit of God, A. W. Tozer writes, "Jesus taught that He wrought His works by always keeping His inward eyes upon His Father. His power lay in His continuous look at God (John 5:19-21)."

Sometimes, the best thing you can do in situations like this is to simply be there for them and be a shoulder to cry on. If they come seeking answers as to why God would let something like this happen, be as truthful and as honest as you can, but don't try to push God on them. A loving heart and an open shoulder may just be the thing that God uses to bring healing into their lives.

I prayed for James and Heather. When people ask "why did this happen; why would God allow it" you don't know, so don't answer - at least not now. Cry with them as the scriptures say laugh with those who laugh, cry with those who cry.

These losses happen for reasons both known and unknown. The medical reason is the known, the why is unknown.. I have had several miscarriages and one healthy boy, now 35 years old. I would suggest a book for you to read to minister to them - Joni Eareackson Tada's "When God Weeps". It is a book for believers, but it also helps a believer minister to unbelievers when they suffer. I am praying for your cousin and his girlfriend that they will reach out to you and that this will ultimately be used for good by God to bring them back to Himself. The pain of loss is just as real to parents even though they did not get to actually hold or know this little one. And there is no funeral, no sense of closure given when a loss of this kind occurs. Just try with the Holy Spirit's help to love on them and be there for them, even if they get angry at both God and you. God is big enough to take it and he will help you with the ministry you give to them. God's blessings on you and I will pray for these hurting folks.

When you and I stand together in the presence of God- knowing and seeing who He is and all that He has done in His sovereign power to move us from birth to "that Day"- we will pour out our thanks and praise to Him, joyfully doing our best to shake the rafters of heaven.
