Lori,
The "unworthiness" doctrine sneaks in to churches other than the Holiness type. I attend a Presbyterian EPC, and that is a pretty conservative church, but in reading the "confession" one Sunday(written by Calvin)the content was about how unworthy we are to come to the Father and how we are all just worms in the universe....I stopped reading, put the paper down, and promtly went to see the pastor after the service. I understand what Calvin was saying, but having a redeemed child of God speak those words is just so wrong from so many levels as to be almost an insult to God(in my mind at least). After a discussion, we changed the wording to read "without the death, burial, and resurection of Christ, we would be unworthy....". I do believe that words spoken have a power and we must be careful to not misdirect that power. Why in the world would a child of God even read or think he/she is unworthy after what Jesus did for us all? The Father went to a lot of trouble, time, blood, and the Cross..to get us worthy......we should act like we know who we are and what we have as a result.

Kevin,
Calvary in Jackson, TN isn't a "Calvary Chapel" church. My mistake. Calvary Chapel would not agree with this Oneness or other strange doctrines either.
I apologize for the misleading. Barlett (?) TN has a Calvary Chapel, as does Nashville, and other cities. A good friend of mine here in Wyoming was a pastor at a Calvary Chapel in Memphis several years ago. Greg Laurie is definitely Calvary Chapel (Harvest) in CA. They also have a Harvest in Montana, but a bit too far to go each Sunday for me. If I coiuld I would.

Sorry for the confusion.
Blessings,
Candice

Charles,

I agree with you so much! Thank you for explaining it in a way that I could not. Indeed, we would never imagine Jesus dying on the cross for any lesser creature (an animal for example). That would be such a horrible blasphemous idea. That is why, as you have said, that it dishonors God when we think of ourselves as worms. Thus, it is not a matter of being prideful to speak well of ourselves. Instead, it is about giving God the glory He deserves for His handiwork. I also love how you demonstrated such maturity by going to the pastor and ironing out the matter. What a wonderful example for me. I will remember that next time I become upset! :) Because of Jesus, I believe there is hope for me! I am also willing to submit to the changes He can do. Bless you!

Lori
In The Pursuit of God, A. W. Tozer writes, "Jesus taught that He wrought His works by always keeping His inward eyes upon His Father. His power lay in His continuous look at God (John 5:19-21)."

All,
We are now (after believing and receiving and being crucified with Christ to a new identity IN HIM) saints who sin, not sinners any longer. :)

Thanks Candace. Maybe someday, a Calvary Chapel or a Critian and Missionary Alliance church will come to Savannah, And be led by people with a discerning gift. It would be impossible for me to drive any distance on Sundays as my sitter comes Mon, wed, and fi.
By the way Family of God. My momma is acting different lately. Not NEAR as responsive. I normally can get her to smile when I say "HI Momma, I love you" but now she just sleeps all day and is hard to wake. And when she does awaken, she just barely mumbles something unintelliglble (her vocabulary is totally gone) and then she slowly closes her eyes again. I just got back from taking a little drive in my car and thinking. I am feeling VERY sad right now. I am not fishing for sympathy. merely quoting facts, I am so sorry for Momma and how she has to stay in that bed all day and have someone else (me) to wipe her and tend to her every need,. If she has ANY cognizance whatsoever, then this alone is torture for her. Momma was a VERY VERY independent lady, And VERY private, and VERY modest. And occasionally her extreme modesty will surface through the Alzheimer's when I pull her covers back to clean her up and she gets very upset. But when she gets upset, I know that she is doing well. This last few days, i could clean her up, dress her is a new hospital gown, and never a protestation. Something's wrong. Plus, she runs a low grade fever constantly, even after I geive her the maximum amount of fever reducing medicine. Some of which is narcotic. So please pray for God's Perfect Will to be done in this dear ladies life.

Hi Kevin,
Your sadness is genuinely "normal" and to be expected. I pray your mother will pass into the LORD's arms soon as it sounds like she is in that process as you describe it. This is a cruel disease and I believe I sense in your heart that she isn't aware of anything so it isn't disturbing her soul because of her need for dignity. It will be soon over and I know you can pray over her and every angel that the LORD wants to send will minister to her spirit, which is all that is left at this point.

I feel for you. I've seen this having been around this in long-term care facility. I hope that the lack of reality for some of these patients is better than the reality and that they mostly have peace; albeit in another world. LORD have mercy on your mother and that the LORD gives you peace, endurance and fills you with the love you need to endure what will hopefully be a shorter struggle.
