Psalms 33:6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.

I am in awe our Lord. He made us and we are for His pleasure. His ways I want to follow, His truth is just and good. Knowing you Lord is the best thing that ever happened to me. I agree Tersugh, only you Lord are Holy and worthy of worship.

Amen. Worshiping the Father and giving Him praise is our job here in this life. He does seem to prefer that we obey Him and then give our worship as is seen in Jeramiah and Isaiah. I for one, always feel much better and uplifted after singing praises to the Lord.

Interesting book about worship that I was reading last night. We all do need to attempt to have as close a relationship as possible with the Lord and get to know Him as well as humanly possible. Having incorrect ideas about God and who He is is not a good place to start worship. The author last night called worshiping God while having wrong ideas about Him....idolitry! Hmmm...had to stop and think about that for a while. Does anyone else (other than me now) agree with what the author is saying? Makes it important to stay in the word, study God`s attributes, and ask for Holy Spirit`s guidance in our manner of worship and the "renewing of our mind" when meditating on God and His word.

Charles,

Yes, I agree. J. I. Packer in Knowing God writes, "All speculative theology, which rests on philosophical reasoning rather than biblical revelation" leads to a false view of God (p. 48). Packer adds, "To follow the imagination of one's heart in the realm of theology is the way to remain ignorant of God, and to become an idol-worshipper--the idol in this case being a false mental image of God, made by one's own speculation and imagination" (p. 48). Thus, the Bible along with the Holy Spirit's guidance (as you have stated) are mandatory if one truly desires to know God.

Blessings,
Lori

In The Pursuit of God, A. W. Tozer writes, "Jesus taught that He wrought His works by always keeping His inward eyes upon His Father. His power lay in His continuous look at God (John 5:19-21)."

It has been my experience that God wants to be known and He says that if we seek we will find Him. Looking at the word "seek" was translated from, it means an honest, diligent, thurough searching....not just reading the "Ciff notes" about God and who He is. Many of the old saints such as Tozer, Kenyon, Spugeon, Watchman Nee, etc, all were earnest, continual seekers and we can profit from their information, but we also need to dig deeply into the Word ourselves, meditate, and pray. Has anyone read "The Cloud of Unknowing"? Really, really deep in some areas, but very interesting. Starting a study of 1 John again, and after reading and studying the first 3 chapters, I had to go back to my old friend Romans 8 before continuing on through the book. We do need to keep the goals of 1 John in our hearts and understand that without the Lord we are nothing and the christian walk is impossible without God`s love and grace.
He alone is worthy of praise and worship, just as Stephen said above.

I recall listening to a sermon by Francis Chan where he challenged the listener to come up with a statement of worship that was only 15 words. At the point of the "assignment" there was some gentle background music that was playing. As I remember, I was struck with the magnitude of this God of All, the honor due his name, and the completeness of His work of salvation. I could not go on...I crumpled to the floor in tears, awestruck by this Almighty and all powerful one who looks on me with love, mercy, and self-sacrifice. Worthy alone is He!

Oh, yeah...the assignment by Rev Chan was this. In Isaiah 6:3, the worship of the Lord Almighty is simply 15 words and all of heaven participates. Also, there was no mention of any but He who sits on the throne.
