I read the A.W. Tozer devotional for today and it was about how battles are won by preparation with little trials that God sends our way to prepare us. This is absolutely right to an extent, but I would like to expound on it and see what people on here have to say as this is a troubling area for me. So far, I have come to think that the important thing to remember is that Jesus Christ is with us through out all of our trials.

So often we focus on the meaning as it applies to the future, and forget that Jesus is with us in the present. I have often thought that the great meaning of a trial is to prepare me for a greater trial or meaning. I am inclined to think that this type of thinking brings about this feeling that Jesus is not with us in the lesser trial. Jesus is right there with us in each storm; He is not waiting on the other side watching us saying, " he thinks he has had a trial, wait till he gets over here."

Overall, Jesus is with us. He said "In this world you will have trouble, but be of good cheer I have overcome the world." He also said "Don't worry about your life...your Father knows what you need before you ask him." So I entrust myself to Jesus. I do not welcome trials into my life. The bible says "No discipline is joyful at the time, but Painful.." I think that it is a little morbid to want trials. Jesus does not take joy in hurting us. Nevertheless, I know that trials will come, but I know that Jesus Christ will always be with me through each and every one.

Thank you for the thought-provoking post. He is with us through all trials, and He will never leave us or forsake us. I believe He allows trials into our life to bring us into closer communication with and dependence on Him, to increase our faith, to give us compassion and wisdom to encourage others going through similar trials, and to conform us through sufferings to His image.

Jesus said, "I am with you all the days (perpetually, uniformly, and on every occasion), to the [very] close and consummation of the age. Amen (so let it be)." Or as other translations state, "I am with you always." What a wonderful and precious promise.

As that great hymn, What a Friend We Have in Jesus, reminds us, "O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer."

Jimmy I think you are right. None of us wants trials to come. By nature we repine from trials, from pain, and discomfort. Its in our nature to do so. So in that sense, i don't believe anyone wants trials or are looking forward to trials. But i do believe that the believer, thats not happy with being just a nominal christian, or an elementary christian, and whom desires deeper experiences with lord, spiritually, emotionally, and desires to be made more like Christ, understands that Christ works out our sanctification and faith, in us best, through trials. Ands its that sanctification and conformity to Christ that we want, understanding that it is going to come by trials.

James 1:2-4 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance,Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

The joy is not in the trial in of itself, but in what the trial has produced in us, which is faith, perseverance and maturity, which is what we all want. While we don't look forward to the trial, we willing accept it setting our eyes not on the present circumstance of the trial but rather on Christ who, as said is right their with us every step of the way. For it is Christ who brought the trial to us, Christ who is bring us through the trial, and Christ who will bring us out of it once it has done the work in us, He has purposed for it to do

Very true, and thanks for the reminder about joy in trials.

We will never know who we "really" are, not who we think that we are, without trials to test our character. When we pray for a deeper life in Christ, part of the package is the testings that come to us in life. You can't build trust in someone if your trust is not tested. This applies to all christian character qualities. God allows us to be put to the test, to see the quality of our foundation. He wants us to be approved....Jam 1:2-8; Heb 12:1-13 and 1Pet 4
