I have had a fear of death, and a fear of failure since I was a little kid. I am currently in the nursing program where I live, and things have felt overwhelming to the point that I felt like I was going to die or give up ( I was getting sick to the point of going to the doctors because I was having heart palpitations). I have tried so hard to be perfect that I thought teachers expected that of me! It is odd, but twice now I have had this teacher randomly say "Nobody is perfect," I have heard this before but I am reminded through this cliche that Jesus is perfect, and he is with me. I have been praying for the anxiety to leave me, and I have had more peace than I ever had in a challenging situation. I just wanted to praise Jesus for that!!

Jimmy,
I have problems with fears and anxiety even since I was saved in 2003. I have no "pat" answers, but what I do is pray to God for help. He helps me even if I am praying all the time every day.

If that is a "pat" answer, I am sorry.

Peace and Love in Christ,
Gordy

Jimmy and Gordy, the battle is the Lord's. Jesus is the name that breaks every chain, yoke, fetter, bond, and stock. In the name of Jesus, I command the yoke of fear to be shattered, never to be picked up again by speaking words of death or complaint. Whom the son sets free is free indeed! Alleluia! Jesus' yoke is easy and his burden is light. All praise and thanks be to God!

JimmyS
I don't usually share this, but I thought it might help. In 1997 I was praying and praying for Jesus to help me give a speech in church. Then He spoke to me audibly. It was the only time this happened (I don't hear voices). He said to me, "Lori, you are made perfect in Me." That's all He said. It's funny how He put the verb tense, I could never have come up with that, but it's so accurate. We are perfect and we're being made perfect at the same time. I hope this helps knowing how Jesus feels about our struggles to please. I'm a perfectionist too and I panic if I think I make a mistake. I'm so afraid of displeasing Jesus because He is so important to me.

Regarding death, I have a history of working as a hospice nurse. I can tell you that I've never had a Christian die afraid. Jesus always prepares us with things you can't imagine. It's not like we just step into the unknown. He is so sovereign and we're never out of His sight or mind. He is truly a faithful Savior, even when we aren't faithful. You can rest in that.

Blessings,
Lori
In The Pursuit of God, A. W. Tozer writes, "Jesus taught that He wrought His works by always keeping His inward eyes upon His Father. His power lay in His continuous look at God (John 5:19-21)."
