Sometimes I just want to do what I want.I think I know what I want but then when I stop and really earnestly seek guidance from God turns out I was wrong.I don't even pretend to know what is best for me anymore. After a lifetime of doin'my own thing my way I am just fed up with me.I have to turn it over to Him and really trust Him to lead me.Does anyone else ever feel this way?

Yes.

That is the short answer. The feelings you describe are, in my opinion, a part of our life for as long as we live in these vessels of clay. The flesh is powerful, and I for one fall very easily into matters of pride and self-confidence. Proverbs 14:12 and 16:25 both say, "There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death." I believe that we have to continually die to self...to our flesh in order to not die Spiritually. It isn't a one time and get it over with event. We are continually tempted to make our decisions based on our flesh instead of being led by the Spirit. I must continually stop and evaluate myself and my decisions, and even my words to see if I am acting from self, or from Spirit. This is one place that fellowship with other Christians is important...to be able to meet together, and to learn from each other, and to develop those close friendships where someone is willing to pull us aside when we venture into wrong thinking, and whisper a word of caution in our ear. This should also be a matter of prayer for each of us, to alway be asking God to be leading us, and to have Him guide us in His Will, and to have discernment and wisdom to know His way and recognize it as such. It is also a reminder to be patient. I for one always want things to happen...I don't like waiting for things. One of the most difficult things for me is to "don't just do something, stand there" and much of what God does call us to do is to wait. And it is there that I usually end up doing what I think is best, instead of waiting on God's Best.

So yes, I feel the way you describe on many occassions...almost every day it seems.

The flesh is a terrible master, but a great servant! Thanks be to Jesus who took the power of the flesh to the cross, that we might live in these vessels of flesh as its master, rather than the way it used to be.

ASV: Romans Chapter 6
[16] Know ye not, that to whom ye present yourselves as servants unto obedience, his servants ye are whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
[17] But thanks be to God, that, whereas ye were servants of sin, ye became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching whereunto ye were delivered;
[18] and being made free from sin, ye became servants of righteousness.
[19] I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye presented your members as servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity, even so now present your members as servants to righteousness unto sanctification.
[20] For when ye were servants of sin, ye were free in regard of righteousness.
[21] What fruit then had ye at that time in the things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
[22] But now being made free from sin and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto sanctification, and the end eternal life.

Righteousness...Israel tried to obtain righteousness through keeping commandments/laws/precepts/traditions, but never obtained it through works... And unfortunetly many christians still try their best, but keep missing the mark.

ASV: Hebrews Chapter 5
[12] For when by reason of the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need again that some one teach you the rudiments of the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of solid food.
[13] For every one that partaketh of milk is without experience of the word of righteousness; for he is a babe.
[14] But solid food is for fullgrown men, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern good and evil.

Righteousness/ love/ patience /longsuffering/ kindness / merciful, are all attributes of Christ. Christiains try to do these attributes, but this only comes from the fleshly source. Christians aren't to just try living this life, but to become this life... One is to become Righteousness, One is to become Love, One is to become forgiveness. Growing in the likeness of Christ, doesn't mean *imitating Him and trying to be like Him, It is in reality His nature, and character that needs manifestation in the believer.

John 15. Two branches in the Vine. One producing the fruit of the Vine, the other isn't! Why? They are both grafted into the same Vine. Maybe the branch that is producing can offer to the branch that isn't, a clue to why that is??

Sincerely In Christ
Barelohim.

Amen, BarElohim! Sanctification is one of the main tenants of the C&MA.

  • Simpson himself had much to say on the subject, as did other leaders in the movement. Here is a brief description of what is meant by sanctification from The Alliance perspective on the Sanctification web page.
  • Simpson also has an article on sanctification you can download from here.
  • Many other of Simpsons downloadable texts can be found on our Publications page and using the navigation at the left.
Above all this, though, is what scripture has to say. Thank you BarElohim for including that in your post!
