I recently downloaded a Keith Green Greatest Hits album onto my iPhone. I had forgotten how fantastic his music was! Take, for example, this classic written with the perspective of Jesus (my opinion in bold):

Asleep In The Light
By Keith Green

Do you see, do you see
All the people sinking down
Don't you care, don't you care
Are you gonna let them drown

How can you be so numb
Not to care if they come
You close your eyes
And pretend the job's done

"Oh bless me Lord, bless me Lord"
You know it's all I ever hear
No one aches, no one hurts
No one even sheds one tear

But He cries, He weeps, He bleeds
And He cares for your needs
And you just lay back
And keep soaking it in,
Oh, can't you see it's such a sin?

Cause He brings people to your door,
And you turn them away
As you smile and say,
"God bless you, be at peace"
And all heaven just weeps
Cause Jesus came to your door
You've left him out on the streets

Open up open up
And give yourself away
You see the need, you hear the cries
So how can you delay

God's calling and you're the one
But like Jonah you run
He's told you to speak
But you keep holding it in,
Oh can't you see it's such a sin?

The world is sleeping in the dark
That the church just can't fight
Cause it's asleep in the light
How can you be so dead
When you've been so well fed
Jesus rose from the grave
And you, you can't even get out of bed

Oh, Jesus rose from the dead
Come on, get out of your bed

How can you be so numb
Not to care if they come
You close your eyes
And pretend the job's done
You close your eyes
And pretend the job's done

Don't close your eyes
Don't pretend the jobs done
Come away, come away, come away with Me my love,
Come away, from this mess, come away with Me, my love.

The greatest part for me is "Jesus rose from the grave; And you, you can't even get out of bed" and it just brings me to tears when I hear it. Music like this tends to draw me to Jesus' feet so that I "come away, come away" with Him.

Does anyone else have a song that stirs your missionary heart?

"If We Ever Needed You" by Casting Crowns. It makes me think of the lost people I have known who need Him so desperately.

And I love Keith Green, by the way! He's the first gospel singer I was introduced to after becoming born again.

I saw him in PA at Jesus 1977 , some of the best christian music our generation has produced.... his music has encouraged us for many years, a note of interest....It took many different attempts to find the key for him to sound good in the recording studio....the secret was to have him play piano and sing at the same time, that is how his first christian album was finally recorded and became an instant all time best seller. Great missionary motivator in the 1970`s.

I have a download of a song that touches me here:

https://docs.google....jUy&hl=en&pli=1

From Bethlehem flows a river

From Bethlehem flows a river
And it's still rushing forth today.

From the manger of small beginnings
Grows a new and living way.

For the thirsty, for the weary
For the heart as black as coal

Streams of mercy, healing waters
To restore a dying soul.

For the Jesus that we celebrate
Is present in this place.
And the baby is now a Savior
Sent to heal our troubled race.

We sing for gladness that Jesus is born
The veil is lifted, the curtain is torn.
The way is open, the barrier's erased
Come and wash in this river of grace!

From Bethlehem flows a river
And it's still rushing forth today!

From the manger of small beginnings
Grows a new and living way.

For the thirsty, for the weary
For the heart as black as coal.

Streams of mercy, healing waters
To restore a dying soul.

For the Jesus that we celebrate
Is present in this place
And the baby is now a Savior
Sent to heal our troubled race

We sing for gladness that Jesus is born
The veil is lifted, the curtain is torn
The way is open the barrier's erased
Come and wash in this river of grace

From Bethlehem to Nazareth to Capernaum to Jerusalem

To Calvary to the empty tomb to the Mount of Olives to the upper room

To Samaria, Ethiopia from Syria to Macedonia

From the ports of Asia all across the sea through the Roman empire into Germany

Through the lands of Europe down to Africa from the sands of Egypt down to India

From Argentina to Mexico, Russia, China, and Tokyo

From the British Isles, into Canada, the United States of America!

Empires flourish and then they're gone
But still the river rushes on
Across the miles and across the years
Wherever man has ears to hear

As the world is round the river can be found.
New life springing from barren ground!

Empires flourish and then they're gone
But still the river rushes on.
Across the miles and across the years
Where ever men have ears to hear

As the world is round the river can be found
New life springing from barren ground.

From Bethlehem flows a river
And it's still rushing forth today
From the manger of small beginnings
Flows our new and living way.

It's the last half that is so moving. You just want to be part of that river!

I want to live my life so that every morning
when I wake up Satan says, "Oh, no! She's awake!

In 1895 my great grandfather WW Simpson traveled 2170 miles from Shanghai to the border of Tibet to set up his mission, the bibles and tracts he labored to bring on the 4 month journey were not of much help as few could read. He was not discouraged, he had his American banjo and began to transpose American folk songs into Chinese hymns, eventually 387 hymns. The tempo was slower than the American songs and it included, unfamiliar to Chinese and Tibetans, shape notes familiar to American folk and gospel music. This way he taught the gospel, traveling to every farm and hamlet he would play loudly in the center of town attracting a lot of attention then he would preach the word of God. Here is a Chinese hymn poetically translated (in his words) back to English sung to the Civil war tune
'The Girl I left behind me'

‘Jesus died on the cursed cross, Redeemed the whole creation.
Arose from death and gave command, “Evangelize each nation”
Chorus:- ‘Go tell the good news to all the world, My signs will prove your story;
Proclaim God’s grace to the whole lost race, Then reign with me in glory.
At Pentecost our glorious Lord Sent the Spirit down and give them
A mighty flood of fiery power To evangelize and save men.”
Chorus:- ‘Go tell the good news to all the world, My signs will prove your story;
Proclaim God’s grace to the whole lost race, Then reign with me in glory.”

"Since I’m a native of Tennessee, I used the Tennessee war song tune ‘The Girl I left behind me’ I wrote it in Chinese and our Chinese Christians like it very much. They sing it in all our Assemblies in Northwest China” WW Simpson
