but those who hope in the LORD
   will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
   they will run and not grow weary,
   they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:31

It does not take a Bible scholar to know that this verse of the great prophet Isaiah is one of the most often quoted in the entirety of Scripture. An encouragement to the saint, truly, yet also a telling of the amazing and unlimited power of God- as it is to be measured and wrought out in OUR lives.

Read the verse again carefully.

"They will run and not grow weary" is a powerful reminder that, once under the influence of the mighty hand of the Father through His Spirit, our labor need not be delayed nor our run disrupted by the worldly and carnal desires for rest and pleasure that once ruled our hearts, hands and minds.

For the most part, I believe most Christians fail to realize what is promised- and available- to them if they will allow fully the transforming work of the Holy Spirit within.

"The harvest is plentiful, but the workers few", spoken by our Lord Jesus in Matthew chapter 9, verse 37, need not be a lament if those "few" are sufficiently charged and strengthened to work tirelessly and without fail in their labors for the sake and cause of Christ.

"Ask and it will be given to you". (Matthew 7:7)

What will you ask for today?

I ask that my tireless labor for the sake and cause of Christ comes from a heart overflowing with love for my Savior and my neighbor....a thank offering of obedience, not the result of the law written on my conscience but the law written on my heart. God's commandments, including Matthew 22:37-39 and 28:19-20, provide the soundest guidance and direction available, but apart from the indwelling Holy Spirit to provide the power and motivation to move out in gratitude and obedience to bring Him glory, our tireless efforts can only lead us to despair or self-righteousness. Paul asks us the question: "Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?" What say you?
