I've been thinking alot lately about the work that Christ did (and is doing) in me. Back in college, I traveled for the school with a musical team and we did an Andre Crouch song (I know...that dates me!) that asked the question, "Where would I be if He hadn't sacrificed His life...Oh, but I'm glad, so glad He did"!!! (Excalamation, mine.) I often ask myself that question. The obvious answer is that I'd be lost and living in sin. But, I think further to the results of the sin and what my life situation might be like. I see people around me whose lives are in total chaos because of the sin condition and I realize that, but for the grace of God, there go I! Today, I am SO DEEPLY grateful that Jesus cared enough to give His life for me and for all of humandkind. Praise be to God! "Where would I be...?"

I'd probably be trapped in my own world, striving for my own needs, without hope, full of fear, dead inside and probably outside, too. I can recall as a young kid thinking I wouldn't live to 27. Now I'm 44, and life is good. Loving wife, 2 kids, a job. Not perfect, still struggle in life, but with God there is a tremendous difference. Like the difference between a slug and monarch butterfly.

Thanks for this post, Cheryl! I have ministered to a lot of people whose lives were in total chaos because of sin. I confess that sometimes I have felt frustrated and angry when I've seen the choices these people made. But then I have to remind myself, "There but for the grace of God..." Without Jesus, I would just as lost and dead in my sins as they are. Thank you for this powerful reminder!
