"Walk in" What the Word of God Tells Us

Posted by Tkulp , 11 September 2021 · 0 views

How important is the concept of "walking in" God's Ways? To me it is very important!!

Some would throw out the Old Testament for various reasons, including the fact that there is a New Covenant mentioned in the Bible. .

If you are interested in the various concepts of a New Covenant, referenced to in Jeremiah 31:31–34 as well as in Hebrews you can study Wikipedia's comments at < https://en.wikipedia...ki/New_Covenant>.

For me, I do not want to legalistically read the Bible, either the Old and/or New Testaments to form a doctrine or religion.

I read the entire Bible as well as ancient texts to gain knowledge and understanding of who the writers believed God to be.

The bottom line is I want to have a living knowledge of my Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus, the Christ. I want Jesus to know me, because I love Him, with and from my heart, not my mind. He is what my life all about! Without Him I could do nothing!

I want to be and remain grafted into His Spiritual Vine. "Walking in" what He has written on my heart as His commands and will. Living by the sap of the vine, Jesus Christ, and cared for by the Gardener, God our Father.

I have never done, that I recall, a word study on the concept of "walk in" until now.

For me, as I am in the process of learning more and more about the Heart and Will of my Heavenly Father, the concept of a special path, God's path, and staying on that path, as a road to a closer relationship with Him and His Son, is critically important!

Romans 12:1-3 Therefore I exhort you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a sacrifice — alive, holy, and pleasing to God — which is your reasonable service. 2 Do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of Godwhat is good and well-pleasing and perfect. 3 For by the grace given to me I say to every one of you not to think more highly of yourself than you ought to think, but to think with sober discernment, as God has distributed to each of you a measure of faith.

I believe that the heart of God, His desire for a peculiar people that would love Him with their whole heart, has never changed since creation. It was modified after the death of Jesus through a vision to the Apostle Peter as he was told to go to Cornelius, a gentile, and share the good news that the curse was canceled by the death of Jesus and His blood sacrifice. They too could have the Holy Spirit!

Gentiles could be born again free from and without the curse, the bondage to sin, bound to Adam's nature of being selfish, rebellious and disobedient. That is the nature which all humans are born with.

All who repent and die to Adam's nature can be born again with the Nature of Jesus Christ, surrendered to do only and passionately the Will of the Father, even as Jesus did, leaving us an example to follow, a goal to achieve, that is, full maturity in the image of Jesus Christ.

New Testament conclusion; God has given us, if we will "walk in" it, His divine influence called grace. If we walk in the ways of the world we are under the worlds influence, and are fooling ourselves if we believe that we are under "grace" the divine influence.

In order to experience God's Grace 'His divine influence' we must 'walk in" His Way as the two experienced "On the Road to Emmaus".

This is a work in progress. You can do the same search as I did to see all the verses that use the phrase "walk in." I will just add as I am able to study in context.

Please feel free to add anything that you feel impressed to share!

The search that I made found 77 times that the phrase "walk in" was used in the Net Bible. I would say that would show that "walk in" is very important in understanding the heart and will of our Heavenly Father!!

Exodus_16:4 Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.
Leviticus_18:3 After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances.
Leviticus_20:23 And ye shall not walk in the manners of the nation, which I cast out before you: for they committed all these things, and therefore I abhorred them.

Leviticus 26:3-7 " 'If you walk in my statutes and are sure to obey my commandments, 4 I will give you your rains in their time so that the land will give its yield and the trees of the field will produce their fruit. 5 Threshing season will extend for you until the season for harvesting grapes, and the season for harvesting grapes will extend until sowing season, so you will eat your bread until you are satisfied, and you will live securely in your land. 6 I will grant peace in the land so that you will lie down to sleep without anyone terrifying you. I will remove harmful animals from the land, and no sword of war will pass through your land. 7 You will pursue your enemies and they will fall before you by the sword.

The concept of "walk in" found in the book of Deuteronomy.

Deuteronomy_5:33 Ye shall walk in  all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.

Deuteronomy_8:6 Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.

Deuteronomy_10:12 And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, and to keep the LORD's commandments and statutes that I am giving you today for your own good?

Deuteronomy_11:22 For If ye shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him; then he will drive out all these nations ahead of you, and you will dispossess nations greater and stronger than you.

Please note the If _ then” conditional relationship.

Deuteronomy 13:1-5  If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,  2  And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;  3  Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul4  Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him5  And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away from the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee.

Deuteronomy_26:17 Thou hast avouched the LORD this day to be thy God, and to walk in his ways, and to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and to hearken unto his voice: That thou shalt take of the first of all the fruit of the earth, which thou shalt bring of thy land that the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt put it in a basket, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose to place his name there.

Deuteronomy_28:9 The LORD shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, and walk in his ways.

Deuteronomy 29:12-20  That thou shouldest enter into covenant with the LORD thy God, and into his oath, which the LORD thy God maketh with thee this day:  13  That he may establish thee to day for a people unto himself, and that he may be unto thee a God, as he hath said unto thee, and as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.  14  Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath15  But with him that standeth here with us this day before the LORD our God, and also with him that is not here with us this day:  16  (For ye know how we have dwelt in the land of Egypt; and how we came through the nations which ye passed by;  17  And ye have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them:)  18  Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;  19  And it come to pass, when he heareth the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of mine heart, to add drunkenness to thirst:  20  The LORD will not spare him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven.

Deuteronomy_30:16 In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.
