Interviewing applicants!

Posted by Amy Roedding , 19 August 2013 · 2181 views

This past week we did interviews for those who have applied for positions with International Ministries. David Lauffer and I I spent time with five different applicants. In each of the interviews we had their pastor present and the district superintendent or a representative from the district office in the meeting. In the interviews we covered topics such as call to ministry, spiritual disciplines, ministry experience and theology with questions concerning the lostness of man and the exclusivity of Christ and theology of suffering.

As I thought through the week and the five interviews - I realized that from each couple I had learned something to encourage me in my own faith or to try in my own life. I love that about the body of Christ and the community of faith. We all need each other and when we hear each other's stories this can help us in our own faith. And I think for me to see a younger generation willing to serve God in some tough places is also encouraging!

We covered the topic of suffering in the interview and asked each applicant to explain what God's Word says about suffering. Interestingly, I felt that almost each person had already suffered due to negligent adults in their lives or even from living for Christ. We felt they were ready to suffer for the name of Christ.
Many referred to the passage in I Peter 4 -

Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice in as much as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

On the weekend - I found this amazing video that reminded me of the faith of these new applicants. I pray it encourages you as well. It is called Thou You Slay Me and has John Piper speaking the middle of it!

Have a good week.
