Good News

Posted by Don Sappington , 19 December 2013 · 1327 views

"I am here with good news for you, which will bring great joy to all the people." That was the triumphant announcement of the angel to the shepherds on the night Jesus was born. "I am here with good news for you." This announcement, this declaration, this triumphant message is just as relevant today as it was 2000+ years ago.

Over the last couple of weeks I have noted with interest the many creative ways our international workers are leaning into this season of the year to declare the good news in diverse cultural settings around the globe. In their homes, in coffee shops, in community centers and creative outreach ventures, in worship settings - all designed to clarify the good news and bring joy to the peoples of the world.

In churches across this nation I hear and read of equally creative and intentional retellings of the Christ story--live nativity scenes, countless portrayals by children of the coming of baby Jesus that first Christmas, even choirs in shopping malls and capital rotundas this time of the year. In my neighborhood the good news needs to be known as well. how about yours? Your situation may be similar to mine--some new neighbors, some I know, some I have known for a while. Some celebrate the Christ of Christmas, some just celebrate the holiday - you know what I mean.

I know I have some announcing I need to do this Christmas season; maybe you do as well. Let's join our international workers as they share the good news in culturally sensitive yet creative ways - but let's go for it. After all, we have good new to share!
