Hey God, it's 2am!!

Do you wake up at 2:00 am with your mind whirling? I sometimes do; I did again just recently. There was a definite theme to the whirling thoughts this morning, God was speaking to me and I was in a listening mode.

Okay, I confess the thoughts came a little jumbled at 2:00 am. After a long time of tossing in bed, listening, rolling the thoughts and message from God in my mind, I decided I had better get up and jot down some notes. I wanted to think more deeply about what God was saying to me.

“I am all about the journey.” God is not just concerned about the destination. He is concerned about the way, the time, and the nature of what we call getting there. To Him it is all one and the same. I tend to separate the two. I want to get there – and fast thank you! God wants to be with me, teach me, and watch my movements. God is all about with-ness or the more exact theological term omnipresence. Gods longs for us to experience His with-ness. He wants to walk alongside us, to watch our reactions, guide us as we journey, speak words of encouragement, counsel, and correction as we live life - even as we experience mishaps along the way. Not me. Time is short, hell is hot, people are dying, let’s get on with it God! In doing In my rush to the destination, how many individuals, how many opportunities have I missed, how often do I blow past a situation God has set up in my hurry to get to a destination, accomplish a task or goal? God reminds us through the Apostle Paul in Romans that He, God, wants us to “Take your everyday, ordinary life – your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life – and place it before God as an offering. ” 12:1-2MSG

“Trust me with the journey.” This reminder was hitting me on two fronts, on issues concerning my journey and something regarding the journey of a loved one. “Trust me with the journey.” The words from Scripture came to mind while I tossed on my pillow, “Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.” Philippians 4:6-7MSG But Lord, the journey is not going as I planned! The journey is not taking me or my loved one quite like I mapped it out! But Lord … and God whispers, “trust me with the journey my child, for yours and your loved one. Could it be I have lessons and stops along the way that you never saw, that you never dreamed of? Could it be the path I take you on is one you or your loved one would prefer not to experience, but if you allow will draw you and your loved one closer to me? Trust me with the journey. Be at peace.”

Remember Don, “you may not understand the twists and turns of the journey, but I am heads up on all the twists and turns of your journey, for you and your loved one.” Then God brought to my mind His words to the prophet, “I don’t think the way you think. The way you work isn’t the way I work. God’s Decree. For as the sky soars high above earth, so the way I work surpasses the way you work, and the way I think is beyond the way you think. Just as rain and snow descend from the skies and don’t go back until they’ve watered the earth, Doing their work of making things grow and blossom, producing seed for hungry, So will the words that come out of my mouth not come back empty-handed. They’ll do the work I sent them to do; they’ll complete the assignment I gave them.” Isaiah 55:8-11 MSG

Listening to God at 2:00 am was a good thing for me. I will continue to process all this and allow these thoughts to find application in my thought life, my schedule and how I order my life. I will trust God more fully and more completely with every nuance of my life. How about you? What do you have difficulty releasing to God? God is all about the journey and you can trust Him with the journey.

Good reminder that God cares about what he's doing IN us, not just THROUGH us.
