Jesus, the Bread of Life

Posted by RuthAnn Nicholls , 13 December 2010 · 1063 views

I have not been reading scripture each morning to study but have not been doing a chronological read either.

It's been more of a "Spirit, lead me" reading.

This morning I have been all over scripture with one phrase: bread.

“Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?”
Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”
So they asked him, “What miraculous sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do? Our forefathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written: ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’’”
Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
“Sir,” they said, “from now on give us this bread.”
Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day.For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.””
(John 6:28–40 NIV)

This was one of the 'I am's that scripture tells us Jesus is, the Bread of LIfe.

At this time, Christmas time, as we prepare to joyously celebrate the birth of our dear Savior, we all know that at his birth in the stable, Jesus was placed in a manger.

What is a manger?
It's were the animals eat their grain and hay.

A manger is an eating trough.
Little baby Jesus, great God of creation, was placed in an eating trough when he was thrust into this world, into this atmosphere. He was wrapped in swaddling clothes and placed in a manger.

The very Bread of LIfe was placed in an eating trough.

And there's more.

Jesus was born in Bethlehem. This is the city of David, the birth place of King David.

And what does the word Bethlehem mean in Hebrew?

‏לחם

1035. ‏בית לחם‎ Beyth Lechem, bayth leh´-khem; from 1004 and 3899; house of bread
“Strong’s Hebrew and Chaldee Dictionary of the Old Testament, n.p.

חם ‎feast
“‏א‎,” Biblical Aramaic Glossary, n.p.

Jesus, the Bread of Life was born to give us life and life more abundantly. He was laid in an eating trough at his birth in the city of bread. And it was all predicted so many years before.

““But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.’””
(Micah 5:2 NIV)

Ex. 16:15 When the Israelites saw it, they said one to another, Manna [What is it?]. For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, This is the bread which the Lord has given you to eat.

Manna is Hebrew for 'what is it?' And Moses told Israel it is the bread which the Lord has given you to eat.

Ex. 13:21 The Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night.

So, I have the Holy Spirit (cloud by day and fire by night) to lead me in his Word (Manna, Bread of Life), Yeshua, of course, my Salvation.

What a wonderful word study he lead me on today.
I am refreshed!
Praise the Lord!
