The Gospel of John: the first missionary!

Posted by RuthAnn Nicholls , 23 November 2010 · 918 views

John 1:43 The next day Jesus desired and decided to go into Galilee; and He found Philip and said to him, Join Me as My attendant and follow Me.

John 1:44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the same city as Andrew and Peter.

John 1:45 Philip sought and found Nathanael and told him, We have found (discovered) the One Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote about—Jesus from Nazareth, the [legal] son of Joseph!

John 1:46 Nathanael answered him, [Nazareth!] Can anything good come out of Nazareth? Philip replied, Come and see!

The first missionary for Jesus!

"We have discovered the One Moses and the Prophets wrote about-Jesus from Nazareth, the son of Joseph!" Nathaniel: Can anything good come out of Nazareth?
Philip: "Come and see!"

Come and see!!!!!

Two more things.

1. Just before this Jesus called Philip himself. A very normal, unassuming man and not spoken of very much in scripture. Very much like me. Jesus called Philip himself.

2. They assumed Jesus was from Nazareth!
Jesus was actually born in Bethlehem. Had they known, they would be so surprised! They knew scripture!

Jesus calls all of us himself. We must answer his call to discipleship and to spread His Good News.
