My wife has had 2 toe amputation surgeries due to diabetes complications within 3 months. The last one was 3 weeks ago. The stitches were removed last Wednesday. Yesterday we went to the doctor and it looks like she's got an infection below the incision inward on her foot. The doctor fears that if the new antibiotic doesn't work she'll lose more of her foot or all of it.

We need prayer for healing and for strength to get through this. We thought everything was healing properly and that this trial was behind us so we were blindsided by the news yesterday.

I am praying, Brian! May God bring healing to your wife's foot. Lord, please cause the antibiotic to work effectively. Please show mercy to your child. Amen!

Father, please bring this diabetes under control. And please take away the infection in her foot. Allow good blood flow to the area and heal her. Thank you Father for your love. Amen.

I want to live my life so that every morning
when I wake up Satan says, "Oh, no! She's awake!

I apologize for not posting an update sooner but we wanted to wait and see for sure.

First thank you for your prayers. God heard your prayers and answered them. The surgeon saw Debbie a day after I posted this. We had prayed the night before and our pastor and his wife had come over and annointed Debbie and we prayed intercessory prayer over her. While Debbie and I are intercessors and sometimes God allows us to speak in tongues I've never seen it where the person being prayed over starts speaking in tongues. This happened to Debbie that night. The next day when we went to the surgeon he pulled the dressing off and it looked completely different from the day before! The oozing had transformed to a regular dried scab and the surgeon said that there was no signs of infection! PRAISE GOD! Debbie's foot is continuing to heal and while it's slow going it is healing. There have been no more signs of infection and her diabetes has stabilized and under control with medication.

That's great, Brian! The Lord is still touching His people. :)

Praise the Lord!!! Thanks so much for letting us know how she is and how the Lord has touched her body. I know she still has a way to go.

Unfortunately not so good. We got blindsided this week. The amputation site has been healing okay, albeit slowly. While I was changing her dressing I noticed that the toe next to the amputation site is turning blue and looks like it's dying. The surgeon is going to do another angiogram/angioplasty on Tuesday to see if he can find/open any more blockages. I suspect Debbie is going to lose at least another toe that same day and I may have to make the decision to possibly amputate more of her foot to put these surgeries to an end. Coupled with that she appears to have a low-level of pneumonia that cropped up Monday. The prior week I had to call 911 because she had went into insulin shock and then into a diabetic coma. I don't know how much more Debbie's body can take.

I don't know what to do anymore. I promised God that I would pray for Debbie's healing every day until she was healed. I am running out of strength to be strong for my wife and my son. I don't want to think that at some point soon I may have to bury my wife or that she won't have a foot anymore. I can't sense why God would be putting Debbie through this. I've been crying out to Him for encouragement, strength and wisdom and He has been silent. Why does it feel that God has forsaken us? We've been through so many trials these last five years, especially since last October with Debbie's health problems. When are we going to be able to catch a break? These next few days are going to be a whirlwind of uncertainty and dread. Please, I don't normally post my email address but I'm not sure when I'll be able to look back at the forum but Debbie would appreciate knowing how many people are praying for her. brian@gowingassociates.com

Thank you to all of you who have prayed for us and have sent me emails expressing your support for us. When I was weak I asked and God sent you to help hold us up and surround us with His love. I cannot begin to tell you how much this means to us.

Debbie’s foot started dying over the weekend. The surgeon took a look at it this morning before the angiogram and said that it was dying and starting to get infected. He recommended amputation of the foot and leg up to halfway to the knee. The operation is going to be in two phases. The first surgery is going to be tomorrow morning to remove the foot followed by the second surgery a few days later to create a viable stump so Debbie will eventually be able to use a prosthesis. The next few months are going to be extremely difficult for Debbie as she gets accustomed to not having her foot and learning how to walk on a prosthesis.

Well as usual God knew what we needed not what we wanted. Debbie had the first surgery Wednesday. It went well with minimum blood loss. The surgeon came out and talked to me and told me that when he cut into her foot he was surprised to discover a hole in the back of Debbie's ankle bone. He said that none of the MRIs or X-Rays showed the hole. He said the hole would have allowed infection to enter into Debbie's leg and she could have either lost her leg or lost her life. God knew what was lurked in Debbie's body when none of modern medical equipment could. While we were praying for healing and to keep Debbie from losing her foot He knew that the foot had to go to save Debbie's life.

Debbie immediately felt better after the first surgery. She has gotten stronger over the last few days. She had the final surgery this morning to create a viable stump for the prosthesis. That surgery went well too. The surgeon said minimal blood loss, healthy tissue, bone, and muscle. No signs of infection. He expects her to heal without incident. If all goes well Debbie will be able to come home by the end of the week. She has a very positive attitude, especially with the knowledge that God saved her.
