From today's Tozer devotional:
Jesus our Lord qualified completely to be our great High Priest. He was ordained and appointed by God. He was the eternal Son of whom the Father said, “You are a priest forever” (Psalm 110:4). He made reconciliation for the people. He showed the only genuine compassion for lost mankind. The Scriptures affirm that in these qualifications as priest, Jesus our Lord became the Author, the Source, the Giver of eternal salvation. Let me review again what it means to us that Jesus was born into this world and lived among us. I once heard a preacher say that Jesus was man but not a man. I am convinced that Jesus was both man and a man. He had, in the most real sense, that substance and quality that is the essence of mankind. He was a man born of a woman. Unless we understand this, I do not think we can be fully aware of what it means for Jesus to be representing us--a Man representing us at the right hand of the Majesty in the heavens. Suppose you and I were able right now to go to the presence of the Father. If we could see the Spirit, who is God, and the archangels and seraphim and strange creations out of the fire, we would see them surrounding the throne. But to our delight and amazement, we would see a Man there, human like we are--the Man Christ Jesus Himself!

Do we really all think of it as Tozer did here?  Especially, for me, "If we could see the Spirit, Who is God, and the archangels and seraphim and strange creations out of the fire.."

And, we see "a Man - that's how I see it.  How do you see it when you think of this scene?

Thanks for sharing this, Candice. Your post reminds me of part of the gospel presentation for Evangelism Explosion, which describes Jesus as "the infinite God-Man." I always thought that was very well stated.

Well, he put on flesh. The apostle John warned us (see 1 John 4:2-3) about those who did not believe Jesus came in the flesh (docetists). But, when Jesus was raised from the dead, He obtained a glorified body. Paul says, "we'll put on the imperishable" (1 Cor 15:53). Moreover, look how John the Revelator describes a vision of Jesus he sees on the Island of Patmos: "Head ..white like wool" and "eyes like a flame of fire" (Rev 1:14-15). Of course this is apocalyptic speech, but I think there is an element of truth. When Jesus was on the mountain, He was transfigured before the disciples and He shone brighter than the sun. When Paul received a vision of Jesus, it blinded him.

So, (in my opinion) the glorified Lord Jesus, is more than a man after He was raised from the dead. Plus, we will have glorified bodies on the other side of this life--but not anything as good as His!

What do I picture? I really don't picture Him. Instead, I know a personality that I know. I can't picture what He might look like.

In The Pursuit of God, A. W. Tozer writes, "Jesus taught that He wrought His works by always keeping His inward eyes upon His Father. His power lay in His continuous look at God (John 5:19-21)."

Docetists - that was a new one for me!

So, I went to the wiki to look up what it means and came to this that I thought was interesting:

Islam and docetism

The Qur'an has a docetic or gnostic Christology, viewing Jesus as a divine illuminator rather than the redeemer (as he is viewed in Christianity).[9]Sura 4:157–158 reads:

And because of their saying: We slew the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, Allah's messenger — they slew him not nor crucified him, but it appeared so unto them; and lo! those who disagree concerning it are in doubt thereof; they have no knowledge thereof save pursuit of a conjecture; they slew him not for certain. But Allah took him up unto Himself. Allah was ever Mighty, Wise.[25]

The doctrine that denies the cross, important to know now that I am witnessing to Muslims.

Thanks Lori!

Shalom,

Radar

.... looking up out of the fire gave a bit to ponder too... commentaries can be interesting and helpful for me.  Now reading Jesus, Our God Man and have been following Tozer's Devotional.   I wanted to come to some understanding of what Tozer meant so went with out of the fire for a phrase to do a search on.  Barnes's Notes on the Bible, Believers' Commentary and Matthew Henry were all a blessing to read along with each post here.

Thank each of you so much for posting and sharing.

God bless.

Shalom,

Ginger

Please excuse me.  I made a mistake on the name of the book.  The book name is   Jesus, Our Man In Glory.
