In Job 42: 1-2 it says, "Then Job answered the Lord: 'I know that you can do all things and that no plan of yours can be ruined.' "

As I think of the context of this passage, Job has lost everything. He has lost his children, his wealth, his health, and most of his relationships. He has "well meaning" friends bringing "godly" counsel, and even his wife has said it would be better if he were dead. And God himself has spoken to his heart condition. If anyone has a "right" to be bothered, I think Job is justified.

At the end of it all, there is his testimony:
"I know" speaks to his head and heart agreeing that God is able.
"You can" speaks to God's ability. It is God himself and everything that flows from him that can do everything.
"All things" speaks to the breadth of God's ability. There is nothing outside of his ability to affect.
"No plan of yours can be ruined" speaks to the absolute of God's sovereignty. Since God's plans are His own, there will be no failure in their outcome.

His plans are above mine. His power is above mine. There is no end in him. And I know that he loves me and sent his son, so it cost him everything to get me home.

So in spite of what I feel or how I think I am justified to wallow in the mire, this one thing will keep me on His track: I KNOW THAT GOD IS ABLE.

Wow!!! Thanks for this powerful reminder, Marvin! I am printing it out so I can keep with me and read it when I need to be reminded again!

Yes, that is a wonderful reminder, thank you Marvin!

I have recently been similarly impressed by the words of Habakuk 3:17-19

"Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls,
yet I will rejoice in the LORD; I will take joy in the God of my salvation.
God, the Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet like the deer's; he makes me tread on my high places."

There is an awesome song based on this scripture by John G. Elliott on a cd called The Paradise of God. This is one of my mainstays and a wonderful piece for private worship and surrender!

Good stuff!
