The C&MA has been purchasing stock photography and art for the magazine since it was first started back in 1882. Over the years, the stock photos, in particular, have made their way into the mission files of the country they originated from.

Today I was looking for a photo of the Syond Vice President of India during the 1960s, Rev. Joseph Dhoke...and stumbled on the photo below!

The caption reads "Inflating Bullock - skin boats for crossing the swift Himalaya River". I quickly googled 'bullock' (because, what the heck is that!) and realized that these guys were literally making intertubes out of male cow skins! How gross, resourceful, intuitive, and the list goes on...

unreal! wonder how they tied off any openings (mouth, eyes, nose, etc). love the guy in the back carrying the inflated bullock on his back like an intertube!
