The Answer For What Ails Us

The Answer For What Ails Us

I’ve been sick. For the past 7 mos I’ve endured doctor appts, numerous hospital visits and tests and two surgeries. There’s nothing like pain to make us appreciate healing; there’s nothing like strife to make us long for peace. Whether in ourselves or in the world at large, disorder tends to make us crave order.
Over the last half year I’ve longed for relief from the pain and unanswered questions concerning my health and at times this chaotic world has seemed to be a reflection of my own personal struggles. Pain waxed worse and strife in this world has gotten more horrific. Still, we can find rest in God. In faith. In patiently enduring, because we know resolution is coming.

1 Peter 1:3-9 says, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”
The chaos of our world today is a direct reflection of humanity’s deep need of an orderly, loving God. As Christians we have no need to fear or despair at the turmoil of the world around us, we can see it as evidence of God’s creation suffering the anguish of being outside His will. This is a deep mystery and not one that we need to fully understand in order to accept. The human condition is sin and sorrow and sickness, without Christ Jesus. When we in our own feeble ways try to bring about resolution to these many ills it is as though we are heaping failure upon failure. What is the answer? Christ and the hope of glory.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”, says Romans 15:13
When we trust God in the big and little things of life that trouble us, we will overflow with peace and joy as we rest in Him. The world needs an overflow of peace and joy just now.
Peace.
