Choose Faith

Choose Faith

Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance for what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1

I think there is a misperception about Faith at work in the world today, in AND out of the community of believers. People seem to think of true, Bible, faith as if it were ‘blind faith’. The Urban Dictionary defines ‘blind faith’ thus,“ Blind faith occurs when someone puts their faith into something without any evidence. “ Is that really the kind of faith God is talking about in Hebrews chapter 11? I don’t think so, and here’s why. There are plenty of evidences that God is with us and around us and yes, in us.

My faith produces some very concrete things in my life when I practice it. Faith in God produces peace in times of uncertainty, Faith allows me to forgive the unforgiveable. Faith gives me hope in times of despair, and the list could go on. But faith doesn’t just “happen”. It’s not spontaneously produced in us, against our will, it is a choice.

Faith is the decision to believe in God and His word and its promises, when circumstances go completely against us. It’s easy to have Faith when things make sense, when evil is punished and good rewarded but what about when things are turned upside down and evil prospers and innocents suffer? The Bible says, in the King James Version of Hebrews chapter 11:, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Faith is substantial; it is the conscious choice to believe in the goodness of God and the rightness of His purposes and timing. Without Faith, there is no Hope and without Hope we are left to despair. I choose to believe because the alternative is so dreadful.

Peace.
