Worn Out Soles

Worn Out Soles "I wanna know a song can rise
From the ashes of a broken life
And all that's dead inside can be reborn
'Cause I'm worn...my prayers are wearing thin."
- "Worn" by Tenth Avenue North

Ever have one of those days where you feel like a pair of old worn out running shoes? You know, the kind with a hole in the sole the size of Texas? That's me! My prayers, much like my faith, are wearing thin today similar to the tread on a pair of old shoes that have seen more than their fair share of miles.

Feeling frustrated and somewhat overwhelmed I can sense my spiritual legs buckling under the weight of pressure from the demands of this world. Life ain't easy, but today I was reminded about an open invitation by Christ with the promise of finding rest in Him from the burdens of this life.

Jesus said to the oppressed children of Israel during His earthly ministry, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Mt. 11:28). Our Savior further extends this invitation by encouraging us to take His yoke of instruction upon ourselves and learn from Him (v.29), reminding us that doing things our own way can often lead to burn out, fatigue, and feelings of frustration. The promise in following Jesus' lead? Not only do we find rest for our [weary] soul, but in that very moment of joining with Christ we will discover that working together with Him is indeed easy and His load light (v.30). Although our burdens will not simply just disappear as we would like them to, our Master instead lightens our load by sharing in our troubles with us; a relationship comparable to that of a brother or friend.

Feeling now like a brand new pair of running shoes with fresh new treads I am renewed and ready to get back in and run this race with endurance! Looking ahead at the new stretch of road that lies before me I can see a bend, and although we can't always perceive what is beyond it the thought which brings me comfort is knowing that Jesus will be right there to meet us at every twist and turn in this life. His promises are true in that He is faithful to never leave us nor forsake us. Jesus can always be trusted to meet our most deepest need.

He is, after all, the restorer of worn out souls.

Run To Win,
Den
