The Bloodshed Continues - How do we respond?

Posted by James P. McGarvey , 30 September 2010 · 976 views

President Obama's latest Supreme Court nominee, radical pro-abortion advocate Elena Kagan, takes her seat on the Supreme Court on Monday (October 4). A sad day for America - another abortion rights activist will sit on the same court that over 37 years ago legalized the premeditated killing of the unborn. The death rate since 1973 is now at 52 MILLION. Apparently President Obama, who hand picked Justice Kagan, and the senators who confirmed her, have forgotten those 52 million lives that have been sacrificed on the altar of convenience - BUT God has not -  and that ought to be what concerns us. His memory is precise - He fashioned each of them - gave life to each of them (Psalm 139:13-16) and knows each of them (Jeremiah 1:5). He claims ownership of each of them - "You slaughtered my children and sacrificed them to the idols.” (Ezekiel 16:21). He will have the last word. We would do well to heed Isaiah's warning, "When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide my eyes from you, even if you offer many prayers, I will not listen. Your hands are full of blood.” (Isaiah 1:15) It is time for America to repent of her bloodshed. If we pastors think we can remain unengaged from this and other moral issues affected by public policy, I encourage watching the video from the Alliance Defense Fund linked below. As Pastor David Jeremiah says, “If we are only faithful for the things that aren't being tested, and not faithful for the things that are being tested then we are not faithful. We can no longer be silent...we have a great deal of freedom to speak the truth today, we just have to have the courage to do it.” Bishop Harry Jackson reminds us that, “Every great awakening had two aspects...evangelism and then they spoke out prophetically to the culture.” We can't afford to do anything less.
