Perfection? ...Give Me a Break!!!
Perfect? ...Or a Failure?
Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you [the priestly nation] have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you that you shall be no priest to Me; seeing you have forgotten the law of your God, I will also forget your children.
Hos 4:7 The more they increased and multiplied [in prosperity and power], the more they sinned against Me; I will change their glory into shame.
Hos 4:8 They feed on the sin of My people and set their heart on their iniquity.
Hos 4:9 And it shall be: Like people, like priest; I will punish them for their ways and repay them for their doings.
"Lack of knowledge"; lack is failure in this verse. The people today who are being called and calling themselves by His name, the name of Christ 'Christian' are being destroyed! Why? Because they fail to have knowledge of the Truth. They are being taught false doctrines and do not take the time and effort to have an intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit in order to learn and grow in the Truth. I know of very few "Christians" that really look anything like Christ, or even believe that it is possible to look and live like Christ!
The most preachers do not learn from the Holy Spirit, they are taught error by men that have been taught error, by their teachers, for centuries. It is the rare occasion to find someone who is perfect or even wants to be, or believes that they can be perfect! How many have taken the effort to see what a learned man like Mr. Strong defines the English word perfect as meaning? It means to be complete!
You are a failure when you do not complete that which has been set before you to do. "When you do not do what you know is right to do!" The cause can be distractions, laziness, ignorance, etc. The man that was given one talent claimed fear for his lack of completing the task that was set before him. The man that failed to put on the wedding robe for the wedding banquet had no excuse. What is your excuse??
As perfection is related to completion, so the opposite, failure, is related to a 'lack of completing' that which is set before you to do, a failure to complete. This is one of Satan's most powerful schemes. Distract people from being faithful! Encourage people NOT to walk in obedience to the Potter's Work and directions. Hide the fact from people, that God wants faithfulness, completion of that which He has set before them and even placed in their hearts.
Paul, in his letter to the Philipians was convinced that " He (God) Who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ [right up to the time of His return], developing [that good work] and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in you."
I have always considered Jesus to be the rock spoken of at the end of the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus may be comparable to a rock for us, but in Jesus' conclusion to His sermon He was not calling Himself the rock that the wise man built on. He says that the rock and the idea of building on a firm foundation is to not be a hearer only, but to be a 'hearer' and a 'Doer of what you hear'!!!
That would be to bring to completion what has been started in you! The relationship that you have started with Jesus and His Spirit.
To stop doing what you have heard from the Holy Spirit is to be a failure.
When you repented of (turned way from) your sin, and asked Jesus Christ to live within you, then you press on to maintain that relationship.
Have you, since that day you asked Him in, fed on His Word seeking knowledge and training from His Spirit? ...or have you, like the dog and the pig, returned to the vomit and wallow of the world?
Do you daily seek the entertainments of the world? ...or the Wisdom of the Word?
Perfection, defined as completion, is not only possible, it is a command.
Most believe the false teaching that it is not possible. They accept the world's and the 'church world's' teaching. They believe that, "Nobody's Perfect" or, "There was only one perfect man". Error hidden in seeming true phrases.
What does the Word of God Say?
" I am the Almighty God; walk and live habitually before Me and be perfect (blameless, wholehearted, complete)." " You, therefore, must be perfect [growing into complete maturity of godliness in mind and character, having reached the proper height of virtue and integrity], as your heavenly Father is perfect."
If Jesus Christ lives inside of you 'for real', not presumed (without any evidence or fruit resulting from His presence), then, since He was and is complete; your faithful obedience to the promptings of His Spirit will bring that work in you to completion; even to the full stature and maturity of the person of Jesus Christ. As a much loved child you will be an imitator, even a reflection of the Father.
Are you Perfect? ...Or a Failure? Is there any in-between? Your eternal life depends on what you believe..... believe to the point that it is reflected in how you live, what kind of fruit does your life yield when it is crushed??
Every day of your life you choose who you will serve the World or the Deliverer!!
Just a post script about Hosea 4:8 "They feed on the sin of My people and set their heart on their iniquity." and what it may mean.
The survival of the priests of the OT depended on the sacrifices of the people, it was the priests living. They were not to be farmers with land. They were special before God!
Think about it for a moment.... what would happen to there income if the people did not sin? No sin, no sacrifice, no wealth! Encourage sin, increase sacrifices, sell the surplus, live in wealth!
"Selling Forgiveness: How Money Sparked the Protestant Reformation" ...interesting history. What will God say about the Protestant preachers, ministers and ministries of our day with all the use of copyrighting and sales of, supposedly inspired material? The books, schools, etc.? Is it possible that there is an encouragement, of sorts, to sin, so as to be able to sell a few good feelings and goose bumps, but never encouraging or teaching Christ-likeness, holiness, purity, righteousness or God-likeness?
When will anyone come to the knowledge of the Truth, Jesus' heart prayer to the Father, in John 17? Does anyone believe it possible to be one with Jesus Christ Himself, even as He, Jesus, was one with the Father?
