JEWISH WITNESSING CAMPAIGNS: Exciting 2013 Summer of Outreach

JEWISH WITNESSING CAMPAIGNS: Exciting 2013 Summer of Outreach A. W. Tozer said: “There can be no doubt that every believer from among the Gentiles owes a great debt to the Jew. Any effort we may make to give the light to Israel must be considered, not as charity or "benevolence," but as the attempt to discharge an honest debt.” “Our debt to Israel is not single, but manifold. We owe a debt of prayer. Paul said, "My heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they might be saved." If he felt that way about them then we should stir ourselves to pray after all these years. Then we owe them also an unflagging zeal for their salvation. The lukewarm-ness of the Church toward the evangelization of the Jew is one of the major tragedies of history. We are not responsible for the conduct of those who have lived before us, but we are surely responsible to do all we can in our own generation to pay the debt we owe to Israel.” “The Everlasting Nation” May-June 1982 Volume 31 #3 “Our Debt to Israel” By Dr. A. W. Tozer p.16

Seattle Witnessing Campaign: Upon arriving, a native Seattle person sitting next to me on the plane said “this is the last day you will see the sun while you are here, it will rain.” That night we trained 9 people in Jewish evangelism. I visited Linda, a former C&MA missionary to Israel, pray for her as she has many physical issues. Abe, David, and Peggy had supper with Steve, David’s nephew [who is Jewish], who recently prayed to receive Jesus as his Messiah and Savior. Still no rain. On Saturday we awoke to a dry morning and drove to the fair area and set up our booth by 9:00 am. We laughed; we were amazed, and praised God for our location. To the left of our booth was the Seattle Atheist’s booth. Two booths down were the Buddhists and right across from us was the Seattle Humanistic group (also atheists), and two booths up from us were the Muslims. We were a “light” in the darkness. Then the crowds came. People would come to the atheist’s booth, look at it and talk to them, then take a few steps and come to our booth and look at our message “If I believe in Jesus am I still Jewish?” They would look back at the Atheist’s booth and then at ours and laugh at the irony of their “no God” position and our proclaiming Jesus. Then we would talk with them about our message. We got a few drops of rain for about 30 seconds but the day was dry! On Sunday we spoke to many Jews and Gentiles about Jesus being the Messiah and Savior for all people. Peggy saw Robert, an unsaved Jewish man, in the crowd walking by and went and spoke to him. He was a contact from the year before with whom we met a number of times to share Messiah Jesus with him. He stopped speaking with us after a number of months and we could not find him. Here he was! Robert spoke with us and gave us his phone number and has since phoned David and Peggy saying he wanted to meet again to examine the issue of Jesus being the Messiah. Pray that he will see the truth and not be afraid to believe in Jesus. No rain and the sun was out! We wound up witnessing to the atheists, Buddhists, Humanists and Muslims. One of the atheists, who was Jewish, was wearing a button which said, “Religion is not the answer.” Abe said to him “I agree with your button; religion is not the answer, it’s a relationship with God through Jesus that is the answer.” He disagreed. Abe said “If you have no God then your religion is atheism.” He was born Jewish and said he had no religion. One Jewish man came by our booth and yelled at us and cursed us saying we were telling lies and being deceptive. Abe said to him “the prophet Daniel in our Jewish Bible said that the Messiah would come and die for our sins before the second Temple would be destroyed, which took place in 70 AD so Messiah had to come before 70 AD.” He screamed "lies" and spit at my feet and left. Three Muslims came to our booth to tell us that our Bible has lots of mistakes and editing and insertion of false teachings. They could not tell us where or when these supposed errors were. Then they said “where does Jesus say He is God?” They believe He is just a prophet. We talked and the next day I delivered a page and a half of Scriptures that show that Jesus declared Himself to be one with the Father and many other passages that show that Jesus is Divine, the Son of God; God come to earth to redeem mankind. Over the two days we spoke to many Jews and Gentiles about Jesus being the Messiah and Savior. We got a number of contacts, Jews and Gentiles, saved and unsaved, that David and Peggy are following up. When Abe left on Monday it still was not raining. Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised!

Florida Witnessing Campaign: Six people came from our Deltona Alliance church and several others joined them from our C&MA Messianic Jewish congregation, L’Chaim, in the West Palm Beach area. The team held up banners and signs at busy intersections and passed out 225 copies in just several hours of the “Awake O Israel News,” a small one page newspaper we wrote. You can see and download a copy on our website: www.awakeoisrael.org. In three days the team gave out 2,175 tracts and shared the Gospel with many Jews and Gentiles. They got 39 contacts, people who gave their names and address: 3 unsaved Jewish people, 3 unsaved Gentiles, 4 Jewish believers, 28 Gentile believers who will be praying for our ministry and some who want help in reaching Jewish friends, 1 Gentile decision for Jesus. We are following all of the contacts and trusting for more positive responses.

New York City Witnessing Campaign: I spent two days training the team. We took them out to observe how to hand out tracts and handle the streets. One experienced member, David, went on one corner and I was on another corner across the street. We split the team in two and they observed us. After a few minutes, a Jewish man came across the street with our tract in his hand that said “When will the Messiah come?” He had gotten it from David. We were wearing our shirts that say “Can you be Jewish and believe in Jesus?” He walked right up to me, waved the tract and said “I think the Messiah is coming soon.” I said “Maybe he already came.” He replied "No, He is coming soon.” I replied, “I think he came already.” He then said, “I think we need to talk about this is, would you like my name and phone number?" YES! Yaakov gave us his information. I phoned him later in the week and set up a time to meet with him; however, shortly before they were to meet Yaakov phoned and said he could not make it. Hopefully we can set up another meeting in the future. We had a smaller team this year, but that did not dampen enthusiasm or outreach on the streets. In just five days they handed out over 12,000 tracts and talked to many Jews and Gentiles about Jesus the Jewish Messiah. I was able to go out twice with the team, the rest of the time I spent following up contacts and planning daily sites and tracts to use. We got 33 contacts: 10 unsaved Jewish contacts, 3 unsaved Gentile contacts and 20 saved Gentile contacts who will pray for our ministry and some will get involved and others want help reaching their unsaved Jewish friends. God answered prayer including no rain while we were on the streets and the temperatures were unusually cool. We went to a Jewish deli restaurant in NYC all of us wearing our Campaign shirts. As a result one of the workers handed us his contact information and said “I want to know more about this.” Contacts have been made which we will feed into our local C&MA Messianic Congregation: Messiah's Lighthouse of which I am pastoring.
