Day Fourteen - In the presence of Christ

Read: Acts 11
Pray: That the gospel would go out in Paraguay, Uruguay, Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Chile, and Mexico- that the people in these countries would have ears that would be open to the good news.

“Be Still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)

Silence. Tranquility. These customs are foreign to our western lifestyle. And sadly, at times they can be completely foreign to our prayer life as well. Many times our prayer life is just as busy as our regular lives. We turn on some music, try to come up with creative prayers, work our way down a list of things we need to ask God for, and by the end of it we are more tired then when we started.

This is where I believe God wants us to change. Sometimes God wants us just to be in his presence. We are so busy doing prayer tasks like Martha that we do not sit at the feet of Jesus like Mary. Personally some of my most beneficial prayer times have not been those of petition, but instead of meditation and contemplation. Emptying myself of the daily business and refilling it with the quiet and calm presence of Jesus Christ.

To remove distraction and to focus solely on Christ and what he did for us, Christians throughout the ages have simply contemplated on and stated a prayer simply known as the “Jesus Prayer.” I would encourage you to set apart some time to simply repeat and focus on this prayer. Centering yourself on Christ:

Lord Jesus, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner”

Thank you for this wonderful reminder. The Jesus Prayer has blessed me often.
