Shalom Prayer Partners,
REPORTS: Seattle Campaigns
May 17-18 2014 University Fair - When we headed to the fair on Saturday it was raining. The rain soon tapered off and stopped and the sun was out. People were stopping and taking literature and talking to us at the booth. Many were giving us their contact information (31 in all) wanting more information about Jesus being the Messiah. Believers were stopping and committing to pray for us. Alex, who was a Mormon, came to talk with us and before he left he received Jesus as his Savior! On Sunday it started out as a sunny day. At 4:00 pm the wind began to blow hard. The sky got black and threatening and the storm predicted by the weather people was on the way. We prayed, calling on the Lord to not allow us to get rained out. The wind was blowing and pushing the storm north almost right over us. All of a sudden the storm stopped advancing and the wind changed direction from north to South and pushed the storm away from us. The sun came out, and in the next two hours we had two more decisions for the Lord. The rain held off until after we packed up, unloaded and headed to dinner, and then it rained buckets. Hallelujah! "Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised!!" Thanks for praying.

June 21-22 2014 Freemont Fair - No rain in Seattle the entire time and the temperature was a comfortable 70-75 degrees. We had many conversations with Jews and Gentiles saved and unsaved and got 23 more contacts to follow up. One Jewish man approached us and began to point out why we were mistaken that Jesus is the promised Messiah. He was a professional “Anti-missionary.” I left him with several points that caused him to pause and think; especially one from Daniel 9:24-26 that tells us the Messiah would come and die for our sins before the Second Temple would be destroyed, which happened in 70 A.D. He had no answer for that. Please continue to pray for us as we follow up all of these contacts and that some would come to faith in our Messiah Jesus. Pray too, for David and Peggy who lead our Seattle Branch. Also pray for our monthly Shalom Fellowship Bible study. We need musicians and additional leadership that can help us meet the needs of this is growing group.

Iris, a Jewish lady, who has survived several bouts with cancer in the past two years, has now developed tumors in her chest. She is taking chemo and improving, but the Dr. has concerns for the outcome. Please pray for God’s will and work to be done in her life. She is trusting the Lord and is a very new believer. Please pray for Iris’ adult daughter Jodie and boyfriend Ryan to come to faith in the Lord.

Sol, a Jewish man, who Abe met at a bagel shop and exchanged phone numbers recently phoned and said “let’s get together for breakfast”. We met and had a great time getting to know one another, and finally he asked me the question, “What do you do for a living?” I told him I was a Jewish believer in Jesus and led a Messianic Jewish congregation. He took that in stride and moved on to another subject. Hopefully we can meet again and I can share more about Messiah Jesus. Keep praying.

New York City Outreach: August 14-22. 2,000,000 Jewish people live in New York City. Additionally there are over 300,000 Israeli Jews and 500,000 Russian Jews living in New York City. 400,000 Jewish people live in Northern Jersey. Huge numbers of Jewish people come from overseas, New England and other areas around the States to work in the city. New York City is truly one of the largest Jewish mission fields in the world.
We will be on the streets holding banners and signs about Messiah Jesus, passing out tracts and talking to people, Jews and Gentiles, about Jesus being the Jewish Messiah and Savior. Pray for Abe as he prepares the training and leads the team. Pray for a good team, good weather (not too hot and no rain), unity, wisdom, God’s anointing, contacts to follow up, and decisions for Jesus. Please pray about joining our team this year. For more information contact us.

Jewish Witnessing Insights: PROPHECY - Micah 5:2 (Date 715 BCE/BC) Messiah is to come from Bethlehem.
Jewish Source Rabbis’ Quotes - "This prophecy of the Messiah is comparable with the more famous shoot out of the stock of Jesse prophecy in Isaiah 11. To hearten the people in their calamitous plight, Micah foretells the coming of one from Bethlehem (i.e., of the house of David) who, in the strength of the Lord, will restore Israel to their land and rule over them in God's name in abiding peace." The Soncino Press commentary on Micah, as part of The Twelve Prophets volume The Jerusalem Talmud (y. Ber.2.4*) comments, "... King Messiah is born...he is from the royal palace of Bethlehem."

*Micah Chapter 5: 1 But thou, Beth-lehem Ephrathah, which art little to be among the thousands of Judah, out of thee shall one come forth unto Me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth are from of old, from ancient days.
There are two main thoughts in this is verse. 1) A ruler in Israel will come from Bethlehem 2) This ruler will have existed from old from ancient days. We will only deal with the first thought. We will look at the second thought in another letter. When witnessing to an unsaved Jewish person it is better to deal with one issue at a time. If you bring both of these issues into the discussion it gets confusing and involved. Get the one issue settled then another time go for the second issue.

Make sure the one you are talking to understands that Micah was a Jewish prophet who lived and prophesied around 700 BCE (means before the Common Era, which some Jewish people prefer rather than A.D., which means year of our Lord. Most Jewish people do not accept Jesus as Lord)

You need to read the verse or better yet let your friend read this verse. Then ask what does the first part of the verse say? Let them tell you don’t give answers until you have given them an opportunity to figure it out. Ask questions to draw them out. Sometimes the Jewish person will say after reading this "Oh you are going to tell me this is about Jesus coming from Bethlehem, but I don’t believe that.” Just say, let’s not assume what it is talking about but what does it say? Someone who will be a ruler in Israel will come from the city of Bethlehem. What is another term for ruler? “King.” What other king came from Bethlehem? “King David.” Therefore could we say that a descendant of King David who will be born in the same city as David, Bethlehem, will come who will be King in Israel? The clear answer is yes; let them give you the answer. Then you can show them the above quote from the rabbis that indicate that they believe this verse indicates that it is talking about the Messiah and he will come from Bethlehem as the quote says, "King Messiah is born...he is from the royal palace of Bethlehem." Ask if they have anymore questions. If not thank them and say maybe we can talk again sometime and deal with the second part of the verse. Pray, pray, pray.
