Numbering Our Days- Psalm 90:1-12

Time stewardship
Many of us, me included tend to go through life simply going through the motions. We drift down the stream of life going wherever the current may take us. We seem to forget that we can paddle and go wherever we choose to go, or where ever God leads us. I think most do this out of laziness. It takes some effort to plan, set goals and then see them through. In fact in most cases it takes work, hard work. And not everyone is up to that. Or maybe it is that we fail to realize that we have a God given responsibility to seek Gods will and move in that direction instead of just going where the current takes us in life.
This passage tells us that we should "Number our days" and that means that we are to serious the time that God has given us and not simply meander through life with no direction. Our days, our time should be something that we cherish because it is a gift from God. And to simply squander it doing things that have no meaning or eternal consequences is foolish. We should seek Gods will about how we spend our time.
Is it wrong to watch TV ? Of course not. But does God want us spending 3 hours an evening glued to the tube, i think not. I believe that God wants balance in our lives. We are to spend time with friends and family, do things we enjoy,work, relax etc, but we are also to spend time with God, serving Him through serving others, and seeking His direction for our lives. God knows our frame, He knows that we are "dust" and He made us to need rest,recreation,time with family to recharge our batteries. It is all important, and when we commit our time to God he can make it even more meaningful.
When we seek Gods will concerning our "days", the time he has given us on this Earth, and then seek to spend that time in the way that He wants us to we can be assured that we have learned to number our days. We can be assured that if you are spending time doing what God wants you to do, then you are not simply wasting time.
Do you number your days or do you drift through life ? Do you seek Gods will for how your time should be used ? If you commit all of your time to God he will help you arrange it so that your time is used in the best fashion and in a way that honors Him.
