I felt brain dead. Over the last month our senior pastor had returned from a three month sabbatical where I took on many additional responsibilities. I was in leadership to put on our annual Christmas program. We'd replaced three staff members in a two week period, which called for their training as well. We are ramping up for a campaign for a new family ministry center. All while running with my usual executive pastor duties and ministry responsibilities, etc. etc. etc. Let's just say there are many balls in the air. I'd like to think I take my work seriously, do ministry well, and have a strong work ethic. Ministry is fun, but at times can be exhausting. Many of you get this. "Been there, done that" right?
Anyway, a few nights ago I felt empty. Not spiritually empty, just physically done. Ready to crash for the night. When I got home from work I gave my family some time by having a meal together and some conversation, then I laid out on the couch. I just needed a few minutes to "zone out." So the family dispersed to do their own thing.
I had just finished catching up on a favorite t.v. show when my youngest daughter Britni popped into the room with a big smile on her face declaring, "I just wrote a song. Would you like to hear it." Now most every parent knows the best and only answer at this point is to say "yes." And many parents found in this position are confronted with the thoughts of "What's coming?" "Is this really going to be a song, or is it going to be a bunch of missed match words with no main theme?" Then I'm thinking, "I'm pretty tired and I'm not sure I'm ready to give all the right facial expressions and affirmations as all this is playing out." Are you tracking with me? We know our kids are watching us wondering what we think. If we like it. If we like them. Do we approve. She is my daughter, so I do everything I can to pull myself together to be fully engaged. In the moment I give myself a pep talk...now I am ready. We call the family together and set the stage. She's nervous. We're anxious.
You probably don't know Britni, but she is a middle schooler with a fun personality and a gifted voice for singing. But to have written a song...how cool is that? She sits with the hand drums in front of her and belts out the words to, "He'll Find You."
Ding! The light clicked on within me...wait a minute. The Lord prompted me, I needed this song. Through my quick paced life over the last several months, though I was busy about His work, there were times I left Him behind. He is watching over me and beside me all the way. Of course I know this, we all know this. But to have it revealed in this way, a song written by my daughter, on this particular day of exhaustion, made it a special moment and a great reminder.
He'll Find You.
Lord, You are always in our heart, always in our mind. Every step I take, you are right there.
Blessings,

I was sitting on the front lawn
I know he's watching me.
And at school He's always right beside me.
It's good to have something that matters,
But don't be scared, He's always in your life.
Just turn around and He'll be there.
He'll find you.
He's always in your heart,
He's always in your mind.
Every step you take, He's right there.
