After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother and brothers and his disciples. There they stayed for a few days.
(John 2:12 NIV)
This is an interlude verse.
After the wedding and Jesus' first very important and symbolic miracle, he went down to Capernaum with his mother and brothers and disciples where they stayed only a few days.
The wedding was in Cana, which is probably here:
about midway between the Mediteranean Sea and the Sea of Galilee, right about in the middle above Rumah and Garis.
Cana is in the mountains. Israel is filled with mountains and valleys. It amazed me to see the high peaks and the low flat valleys where the crops were grown.
The walk to Capernaum is about 20 miles and it is down hill to the shore of the lake where the town is located.
On that same map Capernaum is right on the north shore of the Sea of Galilee.
It's interesting that the Sea of Galilee is not as large as I once thought. It is about 14 miles north to south and 7 miles east to west. On a clear day you can see all sides from the middle. I did! It is a lovely lake. Peaceful for the 3 days we were in Tiberius. Beautiful sunrise there.
It's a beautiful place for an interlude. It's the town where Peter lived. Maybe a great place to get to know each other. What they did there or why, the Bible doesn't say. But I can see them just getting acquainted in a lovely place.
Each day, I need to find a peaceful place to just get acquainted with our Lord. It doesn't need to be the beautiful Sea of Galilee at daybreak, but some place we can read scripture and pray. I have been taking early mornings to read and my praying is usually filled with requests. But sometimes I just ask God to teach me, guide me and give me the strength to do his will for my life.
Interludes are important times.
