Mary's new relationship with her son, Jesus.

So far in the gospel of John, the Word existed before he became flesh, there were prophetic announcements of his coming, all creation receives him (the actual creation HE had created, he now became part of).

John the Baptist witnesses of Jesus and he chose his first disciples.

Now I've read about the first miracle, the beginning of Jesus' ministry.

On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no more wine."
"Dear woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied. "My time has not yet come."
His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you."
Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.
Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water." so they filled them to the brim.
Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet."
They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom asideand said, "Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now."
This, the first of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed at Cana in Galilee. He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him."
(John 2:1-11 NIV)

Jesus and his mother and these first disciples were invited to a wedding.

Jesus was told by his mother that there was no more wine for the wedding celebration. Jesus wanted to know why this was his concern for his time had not yet come.

Yet, his mother told the servants to obey Jesus, an act of faith I think.

I used to think this was just a great miracle Jesus did to begin his ministry and it was. But of course he started his ministry when he began choosing his disciples and this miracle was amazing to the disciples and showed that Jesus was someone very special. This miracle is more than just a miracle. It is prophetic in why Jesus was here.

The jars used for the wine Jesus would create, had been used for ceremonial washing. This was part of the Law, the ceremonial cleansing. And they used water.
Jesus, however, turns that water in those ceremonial cleansing jars into wine. And I know the wine is very symbolic of his blood he shed during the terrible process of his torture, shame and finally his death.

Simply, Jesus came to bring conversion: water to wine, sinners to saints.

Amazing.

One more thing. I think Mary's relationship to her son changed right then and there. Mary, as his mother, addressed Jesus with the problem of no more wine. She placed the problem at his feet as his mother.
She then responded as a believer.

And her faith is honored.

A lesson for me, indeed.
