Has the Heart of God Changed? Do You Care?

Have you read A.B. Simpson’s Daily Devotional today?

The ‘January 25’ devotional challenged me to start this topic today, here in the “Deeper Life” forum.

The verse was “Hold fast that which is good”—1 Thessalonians 5:21, and talked about how we humans, as a normal part of life, tend to change our beliefs from year to year; as we seek Truth.

The Bible says that we are created in the image of God. Does this tendency to ‘change’ come from God?

What does the Bible say about the nature of God, His Heart? Do you know?

Have the fundamental “Heart Desires” of God, “for man”, changed ‘at all’ since the beginning of written history; according to the record of God, the Bible?

Do you have a relationship with God which has established a personal conviction in your heart?

If He has, what ‘Scripture’ has the ‘Spirit of God’ given ‘you’, from His Word, to encourage your belief in what “He is”, His Nature, one way or the other?

This Post is a challenge to all readers; especially those that believe they know God, to have a deeper knowledge of the true nature of God.

It is also a challenge to all the C&MA leaders and followers, to take a few minutes to give a scripture or two that states what you believe about the nature of God. Is not the answer to this question fundamental to a deeper, personal walk with God?

I am not asking for long explanations, just the Scripture, a few verses, should be explanation enough to establish your “yes” or “no” answer to the question; support for your belief. Please include the complete verse with the reference, if you reply.

My desire is for ‘all who will’ to please make a ‘scriptural’ statement of ‘your personal belief’! Please do not ‘debate’ or ‘challenge’ anyone’s response in any replies!

The question:
“Has the fundamental “Heart Desires of God”, for man, changed ‘at all’ since the beginning of Biblical history?”

Thank you, in advance, for your participation!

I want to say Thank you for the responses! I am going to have to ask for a bit of explaining from three of you, if you would not mind.

Layman, Bob and Nmdarga, would you please help me to understand how your verses help us to know if the Nature of God has changed in the last 6000 years.

All three of your verses refer to God, but I do not see them telling me if God's nature has changed or not.

Thank you so much, in advance, for your explanations, to help me understand what you are thinking.

No, God has not changed. If love is the sincere concern for another's well-being, we can see God has been very consistent in His love for individuals. Cain made a proper offering but with the wrong attitude toward God (I John 3:12) and God said to him "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it." : (Genesis 4:6-7). Obviously, he did not master it but God had warned him showing his concern for Cain as an individual.

It is risky taking verses out of context but my original verse in this discussion was Isaiah 26:3 and it has been my prayer for many years along with Psalm 46:10 - and I like the whole song of Psalm 46 but I hear "Cease striving and know that I am God;" in my head regularly.  Whenever I get all cranked up with anxiety or depressed I pray these verses and it settles me quite readily. Jesus also taught us not to be anxious for anything (Matthew 6:25) and He showed great interest and concern for each individual He met and He still does.

Thanks Layman303,

It sure makes a difference when you hear an individual, explain their heart .

I really appreciated your insight, as I hope that I am reading you correctly.

Right from the beginning, after Satan had won with Eve, He begins to work on her children. In the Strong’s Hebrew definitions and Net Bible Notes it describes “Sin is the demon at the door” which lines up with Peter’s description of Satan, as a roaring lion.

Again Net Bible translates 4:7 as “Is it not true that if you do what is right, you will be fine?”

If we could only learn that lesson and live it every day, realizing that it is not flesh and blood that is the problem, it is REAL Spirits and Principalities that are crouched waiting to kill, maim and destroy.

As I meditated on your concept of God’s unchanging efforts to restore humanity to the original pure relationship, I see the flood; The selection of Abraham and his descendants; Then Jesus and all that he did, in addition to His teaching, trying to help us see the heart of God and His desire to have a special people that loved Him more than anything else; warning them about all the subtile tricks of Satan and how he uses our flesh or the old nature, that he caused mankind to have, because of Adam and Eve’s disobedience.

It is too much for my mind it take it all in, as Scriptures keep coming, of all the times and ways that God has tried to turn individuals and nations away from destruction and encourage them by discipline and blessing to be strong in our hearts and minds, to resist selfishness/evil.

“Is it not true that if you do what is right, you will be fine?” Now, we can have the Spirit of Christ to change our nature, living within, to empower us to righteousness!

Thanks again for sharing!!  Wow!

Just wanted to let you know Layman303, that I have been sharing the Truth about who God is, which you opened my eyes to, His nature.

Gen 4:6-7  Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry, and why is your expression downcast?  Is it not true that if you do what is right, you will be fine? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at the door. It desires to dominate you, but you must subdue it."

God wants His kids to come home, no matter how hard the fight, He wants us to obey Him and do right, and ignore Satan and His Demons. ...and we can, no we must!

Sure did appreciate your insight!!!
