Please pray for my Dad, Edwin. For last few months he has not been sleeping, been confused, had behavior problems that are impulsive, anxiety, overeating, cognitive decline, etc. that could either point to dementia that is horrible, or klonopin withdrawals and other medication issues. It is really hard on my Mom and I too because we live there and he doesn't sleep hardly at and cannot be left alone so we do not sleep barely either. It is really hard because of behavior problems we cannot go anywhere without someone being with him and is pretty much up to us. It could either be a horrible form of dementia, or medication problems. Because of those problems of impulsiveness could hurt his Christian testimony and always puts a person on edge what might happen. Pray even in all confusion he would hear God's spirit and be able to read and pray with clear mind. I pray if God's will it would not be dementia and God would restore his mind and brain to healthy and wholeness that would not turn our world upside down. Please pray also our finances would be met because had a lot of them lately and wisdom and guidance for us and all the medial people. Thank you!

I am praying for complete restoration for your father and wisdom for the doctors who are treating him. My husband and I were caregivers for his mom when she had COPD and related complications, including dementia, so I can relate to what you and your mom are going through.

I hope you will be able to get to the bottom of what is causing your dad's issues as well as some help in dealing with this situation. You and your mom can't do this alone, and there may be services/organizations that can help you (in our case, we were able to get my mother-in-law in-home health care, which made a huge difference).

One avenue of help you may want to look into is respite care, which provides caregivers a temporary rest from caregiving while the patient continues to receive care in a safe environment. There may be nonprofit groups in your community that would provide this help on a sliding-scale fee; you could do an online search.

Also, I hope you won't worry about your dad's Christian testimony amid his medical struggles. This is obviously not something he can control, so he shouldn't be considered accountable for his behavioral problems. My dad was a very godly man who suffered many health issues before he passed away, including cognitive decline. He could get very mean at times, but those who loved him knew that in his condition, he was not responsible for his behavior.

You don't mention whether you go to church but if you do, try to find out if your church can help in some way or possibly refer your family to other sources of help. At some churches, there are teams that cook meals for families in crisis or do visitation ministry to the homebound.

Blessings to you,

As a follow-up to my previous post, here is a link from the Alzheimer's Association on respite care options:

The Bible says that God sent His word and heal the sick. I send the word of God into your Dad's life now and I demand that that sickness give way for healing in Jesus name Amen.
