Happy Birthday America - But There Is Blood on the Land

"We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness - that to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just power from the consent of the governed..." The Declaration of Independence, In Congress, July 4, 1776. It's a religious document no matter how you read it. Our rights extend from our Creator and the government that derives its power from the consent of the governed is instituted0 by God according to - Romans 13:1-2. Our unalienable Rights begin with the right to Life. According to Scripture and the Declaration, that right is a God given right. If you have been denied the right to Life - Liberty and the right to pursue Happiness are irrelevant. Fifty-two million unborn babies have lost their right to Life since abortion was legalized in 1973. This is THE ISSUE facing our nation today. God hates the shedding of innocent blood (Proverbs 6:17). The shedding of innocent blood profanes the name of the Lord and desecrates the land (Leviticus 18:21,25). In His covenant with Noah, God warned, "For your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting...from each man...I will demand an accounting for the life of his fellow man." (Genesis 9:5) The blood of Abel cried "…out to (God) from the ground." (Genesis 4:10) God is the one "...who avenges blood… he does not ignore the cry of the afflicted." (Psalm 9:12). Speaking of the day of God's wrath, Isaiah warned, "See, the Lord is coming out of his dwelling to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will disclose the blood shed upon her, she will conceal her stain no longer." (Isaiah 26:21) And the saints martyred "…because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained… called out in a loud voice, 'How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?'" (Revelation 6:9,10). A holy and true (just) God will judge the land that allows the shedding of innocent blood. The future of our nation's existence is tied up with this issue. As we pray let's take time to repent of what we have allowed to take place in our land. With the murderer David, let us pray, "Save me (us) from my (our) bloodguilt, O God, the God who saves me (us)…" (Psalm 51:14). Let's repent for our silence and apathy that has allowed the slaughter of the unborn to continue for over 37 years. Abraham Lincoln said, "Nobody has the freedom to choose to do what's morally wrong." Remember our government derives its power from our consent. That puts the responsibility in our hands to see that it governs responsibly and righteously. It also means that in our Republic, we have no one but ourselves to blame for those we have chosen to govern us. They are there at our request (vote). As we celebrate the birthday of our great nation, join me in prayer for the end of abortion. From my perspective, as I say Happy Birthday America, the blood of the innocent pollutes our land and God's wrath hangs over our nation.
